#297380 New ninty 3ds and 3ds xl

Posted by Aplg8 on 29 August 2014 - 07:40 AM in General Gaming

Bought my 3DS XL in may and really enjoy it, bought my nephew Zelda: Link Between worlds for his DS.  I subsequently learned he had an older DS and could not play it. (my fault for not checking)  Now another version is coming out called "New 3ds", Nintendo's marketing department sucks at naming their products.

As I own the new ipad and the ipad 3, this is not the same. I can run virtually every ap on both. Or let me rephrase my comment on their marketing department to:

Kudos to the marketing department for doing exactly what apple did, when out of ideas just copy someone else. Looking forward the your next console most likely titled THE NEW WII U

#293385 is it bad to not like your own country

Posted by Aplg8 on 16 July 2014 - 04:58 AM in The Café

I will say while I greatly enjoyed living in Europe, running into people that stereotyped Americans was very annoying.  My personal favorite was at a pub in Denmark with my local friends.  We were drinking and having a good time, conversation was mostly in English as they all speak it.  A local heard my lack of a Danish accent an approached me.  Of course I got to hear about why George W. Bush was awful, we are all fat (I'm actually not), and was then asked "why do you leave your homeless on the street."  As I could tell, this person wanted to have a logical discussion about the countries' differences, I responded the best I could.  I explained to him that I left my homeless on the street because I did not have any guns to shoot as all five, my requirement to own as an American, were out for cleaning.

#293158 is it bad to not like your own country

I lived in the US the first many years of my life then lived in Denmark for 3.5yrs followed by Austria for 2.5 yrs.  I really appreciate the fact the European countries embrace their culture and quality of life.  Moving back to the US has been a challenge as their are so many negative groups in our society.  The divide between left and right has become so bad.  I will say the biggest reason I may leave this country again, in hand with my European wife, is the violence in this country.  The tolerance for it is beyond stupid.  Yes there is violence every, but countries I lived in were no where near this level.

Referring to the entire US with sweeping generalizations is naive, foolish and erroneous, As things like violence vary incredibly widely on a state by state basis, with many states actually having considerably less crime and violence than european countries.
In fact, Canadas crime rate per 100,000 people is actually twice as high as the United States. Hooray for stabbings.
As much as I enjoy seeing yet another cringeworthy concrete example of the Dunning-Kruger in full force, its time to put the rampant misinformation to bed with a dose of reality. article-1196941-05900DF7000005DC-677_468
Unfortunately for narrative pushers, the US missed getting in on this list, coming short with 466 incidents per 100,000 citizens.
Australia is at a peaceful 92. But people die on the side of the road when their car breaks down... desperately trying to drink coolant to last long enough for rescue services... And games prices are robbery!!

Agree to disagree on this and you can call me naive and foolish with my "sweeping generalizations" as I'm not going to list the various states I've lived and traveled. Fact of the matter is I felt far safer in the European countries I was in. (Excluding Romania and Serbia)

#290566 Lil Ceasers pizza is honestly underrated.

The notion of $5 for "underated" pizza is amusing. I'd rather spend a little more and actually know what I'm eating.

LOL I can't even begin to explain how elitist this sounds.

You could but I'd probably not be interested.

#291009 Playstation Now expensive?

Posted by Aplg8 on 20 June 2014 - 04:53 AM in General Gaming

Judging by the mixed bag here I'd say they hit the price point rather well.  There is a market for this service, on demand availability sometimes comes at a premium.

The 4hr rental looks a bit steep, and not for me, but I'm of the opinion those are simply there to make the longer period rentals look more attractive.

#290777 In all honesty, Xbone actually has a pretty good exclusive lineup

Posted by Aplg8 on 18 June 2014 - 09:12 AM in General Gaming

It's not a bad line up at all but I can see my 360 has plenty of life left before I bother with an xbox one if ever.

Cool that you can have the Halo's on xbox one but I've already played them

Halo 5 I'm not looking forward to

I enjoyed forza but that game just turns into a grind (yes a lot do)

Fable - meh

Good to see more games are coming, I guess I'm just not that thrilled with the next gen console.

#314587 Came back to the WII U

Posted by Aplg8 on 16 June 2015 - 08:44 AM in Introduction Central

2 yrs ago I got a WII U and after 5 months I sold it.  Was perfectly fine with selling that as there wasn't much going on game wise.  So the other day I was looking on Ebay and won an auction for a 32g system for $130.  Now it was missing a power cord so I ordered one.  Now I was quite leery of this deal but yesterday I powered everything on.

First Off the Good:

Minor scuffs but no major cosmetic issues

System was preloaded with Super Mario 3d world

Sonic and Sega All stars was still in the system (I 900'd this on xbox but hey free game)

The almost bad:

System powered up but after 10 minutes the light went red and shut off, I unplugged tried again and powered down.  Now I was not freaking out as I paid very little, but I was slightly annoyed as it was turning on but then off.  Low and behold I do a web search and someone mentioned the fan.  I blow out some dust and out falls a dried up dead moth.  I power the system back on and the fan is now running.  So last night I played Mario 3d for the first time and the system is fully functional....not bad.

Next up Splatoon

OK I hadn't paid much attention to this game until I read it might not come to North America.  Now having seen footage of the game, I'm perfectly OK if it didn't.  (yes I know they have since announced it would)

#316074 The Ninja and gaming. Share your faves

Posted by Aplg8 on 14 July 2015 - 04:19 AM in General Gaming

My friend had the original Ninja Gaiden on his NES back in the day, I thought it was neat but I sucked and never played again.  Oh an I also played the original TMNT and hated the fact I could only use Donatello or I'd die.
