#111959 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 23 September 2012 - 12:14 PM in Wii U Hardware

Dunno how many of you guys are europe based here (seems less than half anyway) but the only way I could find value in the uk was to get the zombiu pack.Sort of takes the edge off it by including the game and pro controller

I totally agree with you here dude. I have got a £20 deposit down at GAME, where £359.99 gets you the Premium console (Black) with Nintendo Land of course AND ZombiU AND a pro controller. 2 games and a controller for an extra £90 basically. Bangin!

#92661 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 09 July 2012 - 06:16 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'm going for

Release £199.99 - Nintendo-land bundled (£229.99 with Darksiders 2)

I'm predicting the Playstation 3 mini at £149.99 with Vita bundle at £249.99 this Christmas

After Xbox 8 announcement/release £174.99

After PS4 release £149.99

Smart predictions! But Wii U will not sell under £169 in my opinion for a loooong time. Probably will start at £229, then £199 and at its heaviest competition the £169. Bet you! :)

#84849 What you think of the launch/launch window titles?

Posted by Marc on 06 June 2012 - 01:16 AM in Wii U Games and Software

What? More of NintendoLand? You're kidding, right?
If not then I'm glad it appeals that much to at least one person. It's an okay bundle in game but wouldn't sell on its own.

No, more of the other games. I just think Nintendoland was a good idea, don't know how much I would play. They needed to show off games that appealed to core gamers, but didn't really.

Disappointed. Was at least hoping to see what Retro Studios had in the pipeline. Don't know why it was speculated so much on a Zelda title appearing, but I appreciate it would have just been awesome if they had made it possible so soon. A lot of people were disappointed actually, but I reckon it was mostly because we didn't see enough of the long-awaited HD footage, and proof the hardware is powerful, or much gameplay.

ZombiU looked amazing, but - little to perhaps no real gameplay? Pikmin 3 - no 'real time' gameplay? NintendoWorld was actually really awesome. They could have done with another 30 mins overall to show more of everything! >.<

Will have to wait till E3 next year now!

The DS was never sold at a loss.

Fair. Can't remember where this info was even from. Although, I remember it was definitely on a page justifying the 3DS price drop. Probably an article for the DS having a similar cut early in it's life. Looking now at wiki, the price only dropped $30 like, two years later.

Anyway, I hope the Wii U won't be set that high so sales are slower than expected again. Although my predictions was $350 at the lowest, now I think it should be lower. Not that it is important right now, presentation and coverage started! JOY XD

It was sold for a loss in Japan at one time. I remember Iwata mentioning this to investors after the 3DS price drop in order to calm them down.

Oh really? Maybe I wasn't making it up then o_O

The 3DS is the first console Nintendo have sold at a loss, and this happened when it was price-cut from $250 to $169.
It will return to profitability by September, I believe.

Wasn't it a similar case with the Nintendo DS? I heard that this was the first time they dropped the price to sell at a loss...

#81517 Nintendo slightly updates Wii U Logo

Posted by Marc on 29 May 2012 - 06:24 AM in Wii U Hardware

I would love for Nintendo to introduce a similar design competition for Wii U like what was introduced for Wii few years ago. Anyone remember Art of Wii?

Although the original site has been taken down, the concept alone is awesome! Considering that Wii U is specifically tailored for 'you' it wouldn't be a bad idea for some individual styles :) I wish I had time to produce my own one! Will def post one if I find time to manipulate the logo ;)

#76357 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 01 May 2012 - 09:55 AM in Wii U Hardware

Sigh, here is the heart of the problem my friends. The wii u is essentially a rehashed wii with added gimmicks to get you to buy. Whatever price they charge will probably be too much. I've been a Nintendo fan all of my life and I've gotten every major console, but I'm going to call abandon ship on this one. I can't afford to spend 250-300 dollars on a bunch of bells and whistles. In my opinion, I think that Nintendo needs to get its mind back on track and stop producing the add ons and rehashes. They could relearn a thing or two from Sony. Why is the PS3 still so popular while the wii is slowing? Answer: Sony kept it simple.

So, one-post wonder-boy, I have some words for you. There are so many varying degrees of wrong to what you're saying here. You really cannot make assumptions when you clearly know so little. No one gives a rats if you've been a Nintendo fan all your life, it doesn't inherit you the financial proficiency to state what affair the Wii U should or shouldn't be. If you're opting out of the market Nintendo is aiming at then fair play, but no one knows for sure the Nintendo game-plan exactly yet.

However, from what I have been reading recently, things don't look very promising and if what I fear becomes reality, it will most definitely will not be a launch purchase, let alone a launch window purchase, if at all for some time. If it turns out to be a product that is too expensive to the majority of people Wii U is marketed at, then it really will be curtains.

The only real concerns are whether expectations are met/surpassed/severed in regard to the hardware of the Wii U, and how well Nintendo manage their strategy for digital distributions, services, and connectivity. That is where the real value is. We know the in-house games and third party support are hopeful to say the least, and devs have positive things to say about the console. Speaking of which, please please explain how Sony have kept things simple. My PS3 purchase had only recently become of its true value because of how low-priced and accessible it is now, and even I am finding it hard to make much use of it. It won't make its 10 year life cycle with hardly any merit at all...some speculation that could actually be true here  The Wii 5-6 year life cycle though however, very successful.

I expect a similar, but much improved strategy for Wii U, driving sales further than it's fan-base and into the more dedicated gaming market where some real judgement will suffice.

#63606 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 26 February 2012 - 06:34 AM in Wii U Hardware

That didn't make much sense.

<siiiigh> Someone said some time ago that 'Wii U' made them think Wii Ultra. It has been mentioned from time to time. You may not have picked up on it. I was playing on words, playing with the appearance of the name Wii U.

What I don't get is the 'Wavebird for Wii' you spoke of. Unless you had just simply made a mistake? Did you not mean Wavebird for Gamecube?

You originally said that a CCP style controller would be a good idea correct? This would ultimately be a Wii U pad without the screen, agree? So I was suggesting that would be like a Wavebird controller. Nothing more complicated than that. As long as you now understand that the 'Ultra' is playing suggestively to Wii U-ltra. Sorry if I didn't make sense! I tend you speak out loud when I write, and quite quickly, so doesn't always have the sort of structure proper writing should have :P

ANYWAY! The wave bird really was not ugly! It had a great shape, nice weight to it, as well as filling in that strange shaped gap below the D-Pad and C-Stick. Some felt it was slightly over-priced, but it was a great product in my eyes. I wish I had bought one. Since the Wii U controller will be a wireless device, it will most likely act as the primary controller in many games that require the 'dual analog style layout'..much like PS3/CCP is designed. We would have to consider the possibility of one being part of a bundle, since this thread is about the cost of the console, or bundles.

Now! Cost. This is the thread for it after all. If there are different bundles for Wii U with one potentially including a CCP style peripheral, it wouldn't be from launch. I am more than certain that this wouldn't happen at all. Debatable to whether the sort of games that will be available from around the launch-window would actually need a 'stand-alone wireless component' that focuses on playing virtual console games, and specialist titles (much like Monster Hunter 3 and Goldeneye 007 for Wii). The main focus will be on new games! It will be getting gamers/users to familiarise themselves with the new ways of play.

If the Wii U pad is rather pricey, then I am sure that a cheaper alternative to allow for 4-player gaming could be made available easily. Here are a couple of scenarios:

1. Wii U is able to utilize 2 pads while in general use. It would be likely that 'at least' 2 Wiimotes will be owned by a household/user. This allows for (potentially) 4 CCP controllers to be used and be played when hooked up to all 4 peripherals. This could all be possible after the launch bundle is bought. Another Wii U pad must be bought, assuming only 1 is supplied. If too expensive, extra Wiimotes would work, if a bundle includes two Wiimotes already.

2. Wii U comes bundled with a Wii U pad, and only 1 WiimotePlus. This is a new Nintendo customer making the purchase, or a consumer who never owned Wii or accessories for the console. It is known of another available controller that is aimed for people wanting to play virtual console games, and specialist games that are compatible with this controller. The desired amount of controllers will be bought for their purpose. This is where the idea of the wavebird comes in. It is a stand-alone product built to work independently (the signal receiver box doesn't need considering) with the console. If a CCP was built with the same wireless functionality as the Wiimote/Wavebird, it would be a cheaper peripheral potentially than the Wii U pad.

The issues here is that there seems to be just too many controllers going on. There definitely is a possibility here for a product that skips the need to 'hook-up' one controller or another. In my mind, the best scenario where 4-player 'dual analog style' gaming can be achieved in this way:

Two Wii U pads, 2 Wiimotes & 2 CCP. That way 4 players have access to the desired layout (considering that the Wii U pads will come with Z1 & Z2). The only issue here is the potential disadvantage of 2 users making use of the circle pad's of the pad, and the other 2 using the analog sticks of the CCP.

Just to note, I am not saying that a 'CCP style' controller shouldn't be produced and bundled, but am agreeing there definitely is a problem where just a wireless functional dual circle pad controller would solve some issues. The biggest downfall is cost. I don't see Nintendo developing many more ways to play the games, especially since they now have the new direction of the circle pads. CCP may just be good enough to do, in the way we're already familiar. It would be an amazing feat if Nintendo went and produced a controller that had no touch screen, clickable analog sticks, analog shoulder triggers and another two shoulder buttons......just for the purpose of people playing games like they've come to doing with XBox and PS3. It wouldn't be cheap! And CERTAINLY wouldn't be bundled with the Wii U console!....probably :)

WHAT DO OTHER PEOPLE THINK???!

#63532 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 25 February 2012 - 06:34 PM in Wii U Hardware

Oh, the Gamecube wavebird is nice, but I don't think you can use it on WiiU. What is the wavebird ultra? Because the Wii Wavebird was ugly.

Right. 'Wavebird Ultra' is not a real product, but it is suggestive to Wii Ultra, like some people have speculated before. What Wavebird for Wii? I am not interested in third party devices because it is not following a house-style produced by Nintendo.

Anyway, this is straying from the point. I replied to you in the first place, because you said you didn't want to wire up a controller to the Wiimote. So...Wavebird. But Ultra. As it is (potentially maybe, but whatever) a wireless controller that has the functionality of the Wii U pad, but without the screen. Seems silly, but since everyone is going on about CCP...and you don't want wires....there, thats enough. Sigh.

#63431 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 25 February 2012 - 08:59 AM in Wii U Hardware

The price is going to be very dependent on two things:
1. How much the console and controller cost to make
2. Wheither Nintendo plans to sell it at a loss or profit at launch

Nice one Jessdawg :P haha

#63419 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 25 February 2012 - 07:13 AM in Wii U Hardware

Ugly, I like the CCP better.

The Wavebird was immense! I wish I could find a decent one for a good price...quite rare now! CCP is great, but isn't tailored uniquely like official GC controllers were. We're gonna have to agree to disagree here I reckon :P

#63181 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 23 February 2012 - 11:07 AM in Wii U Hardware

they should redesign a classic controller of some sort because the wii remote is uncomfortable to play with sideways. maybe bring out one that plugs straight into the wii u instead of having to plug it into the wii remote, or better still wireless straight to the console,
also I want to know is if most games will use motion-plus in the wii remote. because i don't have it built in.

I can imagine that the WiiMotion Plus will retail for some very small offering, so at least existing consumers can upgrade (if required). Nintendo will have it covered, there would be no point rendering all the Wiimotes useless, or asking 'big' of consumers so they buy all new Wiimote Plus' D:

#63154 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 23 February 2012 - 04:49 AM in Wii U Hardware

Yes it is. My friends hate using the Wiimote and I will not buy 4 upads. So my 3 friends will use CCPS and I will use the Upad. They should make a new CCP though. Because I don't want to connect it to the Wiimote and it's not wireless.

Wavebird Ultra

#61918 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Marc on 16 February 2012 - 06:26 AM in Wii U Hardware

I don't quite see what poverty has to do with this...Wii U will be a premium product, and won't really be marketed to new buyers or lower income families indefinitely. There is already a core audience of gamers who would take the step up, whether you own a Wii, PC, PS3 (XBox gamers...?!) or a family member that has become familiar with Nintendo. Just seems like that way to me :P

Maybe someone could cough up the link where Reggie explains about target audience for Wii U? No matter what the conversion costs are from Asia to the west, it will be at a price that will most likely be steep against casual gaming in each region.

#61350 What color/decoration would you want on your wii u?

Posted by Marc on 12 February 2012 - 06:05 PM in Wii U Hardware

I want mine in black, but not too glossy.

Also, the original NES Light Grey/Dark Grey/Black + Red combo would be cool.

I'll probably get it custom painted, if I can.

Fair shout right there! I would probably slap my self in the face (just to check) if someone brought me a custom console :')
