#67918 Rumor: "Nintendo tweaked the Wii U to make sure it can run UE4."

Posted by Odyssey on 24 March 2012 - 11:37 PM in Wii U Hardware

UE4 isn't going to be released properly for a couple of years anyway, and in the meantime I think I'll be pretty happy with UE3 + extra bells and whistles (compared to PS360). If it ends up Wii U can't run UE4, lets just hope Epic make it easy for devs to port their games between the two engines.

#67292 WiiU Renaming Suggestions (New Names)

I like SWii (Super Wii). You could also slap a T on the end to pronounce it as 'sweet', like Super Wii Tech.

Erm...I've honestly not seen that big of a difference between 1080p games and 720p games.

I agree that there's not much difference. And when anti-aliasing is used on 720p games, it's almost impossible to notice the difference.

Without the anti-aliasing though, it can seem a tiny bit low-res for this day and age. For example, lately I've been playing a lot of Forza 4 (720p - no in-game anti-aliasing). The game is GREAT... but the jaggies are kind of overly noticeable. Maybe it's just more noticeable due to being a racing game where you are constantly scanning the screen for turns and opponents etc, but yeah, definitely jaggies are noticeably there.

I'm pretty confident however, for the games on Wii U that are native 720p, there will at least be processing power left over for anti-aliasing in most of them.

#67228 Applications on the WiiU, which ones would you want?

More of a feature than an app, but it'd be cool if you could have a number of upload slots that you could fill with screenshots to later retrieve from your account on the net. They could call it 'WiiShots'.

Even before this latest rumour, I was a little concerned about one or more extra screens taxing the system's power. Maybe draw distances and other little things could be sacrificed to compensate for lower frames when playing local multiplayer with two U-trollers. Kinda like what happens a lot in 5th gen consoles where you have split-screen.

I'd say the reason Nintendo haven't been forthcoming on whether you can use two at once, would most likely have to do with performance concerns though.

Personally, I'll be getting a classic pro controller for 2 player.

#67082 Hello Wii U Forum People

Posted by Odyssey on 20 March 2012 - 01:48 AM in Introduction Central

Hey, how are yas? I hate these mandatory introductions, but it'd be weird I guess, if I just started randomly posting here without one. People would be all like "who does THIS guy think he is?!"

So anyway, yeah, here I am introducing myself to avoid that kind of thing.

My name is Brian, I'm an Australian. I like games and currently play a lot of 360. After passing on the Wii this gen, I'm really looking forward to the Wii U. I guess you could say that throughout my lifetime, I've been a bit of a Nintendo fan. I loved the SNES. I was among the first to go out and get a Nintendo 64, snubbed my nose at the Playstation for a good couple of years. Enjoyed playing my Gamecube. By the time the Wii came around though, I was more-or-less happy where I was with the 360. Plus, I'm an old gamer-dude from way back, so the new control system didn't really appeal to me.

When I get myself a Wii U, I think it'll probably be time to check out some of the Wii's library though, like the Mario Galaxy and Zelda games.

I'm pretty excited about the Wii U. Seems like a return to form from Nintendo, and then some. It looks like they are trying more than ever to assist 3rd-parties in making quality software (as opposed to hogging all the know-how so that the 1st-party games stand out). I can see the U-troller being really useful in games too, having the touchscreen will hopefully do away with a lot of cumbersome control-stick menu navigation.

Anyway, that's about it I guess. Hi :)
