#317730 Nintendo NX Rumors

Posted by Socalmuscle on 25 January 2016 - 09:31 PM in Wii U Hardware

It won't be just a portable that inexplicably gets a "boost" if it just so happens to connect to a competitors console. That would cause developers to have to develop two games for one system - or one very high end game that utilizes low LOD when it is mobile only. Not worth the investment for those who will only use the mobile unit.

NX is a codename used to describe a NINTENDO family of hardware units that share data with each other with each utilizing a similar architecture for ease of cross hardware game and app development. The mobile system can share the "same" game data with the "beefy" home based unit allowing for high fidelity gaming at home and the "same" game (using shared saved data), but at a lower fidelity while on the road. Actually surprised no one has done this before.

Other Nintendo hardware units as well as some existing and future competing hardware units (phones, tablets, etc.) will join the home console and mobile unit to run Nintendo software to be called cohesively, the NX platform. Still just a codename. Pretty ambitious stuff.

#317705 Even More New Footage of Twilight Princess HD - Nintendo Minute

The game looks crap. No matter if SOME of the textures are redone halfway to 10 years ago standards and some polygons had a triangle or two added... It looks as old as it is.

I won't be playing. I have little time to game and when I do, I want to revel in graphical glory while enjoying making my way through a great story with great audio, etc.

Was a great game in its day. Today is not that day.

wish they would have done a complete graphical overhaul. the bones and beating heart of the game are already done. that's the hard part.

Heck, Nintendo could have even reused assets from its other Wii U games and had something great.

Still, it's hard to blame them with the Nx coming up soon and sounding like a bit of a juggernaught.

#317634 What do you want the NX to be or what do you think it will be?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 22 January 2016 - 08:09 PM in Wii U Hardware

I actually think it needs to be a VR system. This is where the buzz is at the moment in gaming. There was a time when Nintendo was at the forefront of gaming tech - it needs to get back there.

True that VR is causing some "buzz."

But it's a way off from making "cash."

Any VR system should really just be a remote display that is fed from the main unit. So the console can be used normally as well as in a VR setup.

No one on earth wants to be stuck HAVING to use VR for your gaming entirely. It wears on you.

But it's cool once actual "good" games are played on it. There is maybe ONE now that's decent. But it looks like iPad graphics.

I think Nintendo will offer the VR extension to complement the main hub/core.

But VR isn't a money maker at all yet.

So a portable nearly as powerful as Xbox One and a main unit @ 4X as powerful as PS4 sound good to anyone?

Of course I am just dreaming...

#317635 New Nintendo controller patent

Posted by Socalmuscle on 14 January 2016 - 07:36 PM in General Gaming

Nintendo would do well with an easy to hold/use controller that offers USEABLE and EFFECTIVE innovation that can actually improve how we play games.

The U controller just felt likes cash in on the tablet craze. And that failed horribly.

Just provide a robust, powerful console capable of letting game developers express their vision better than the competition does and ADD innovation to that staple core tenet.

The 3Ds sold more because it was cheaper and had a large library.

No matter what Nintendo does, they will not do what is needed to cater to the whims of the AAA developers - who don't even meet Nintendo's quality control and family safety preferences. Big developers want insanely powerful systems at low costs to make up for the poor optimizations of their bloated and buggy engines, and demand the manufacturers bend over backwards to meet their demands. Nintendo would effectively destroy itself attempting to meet that criteria. that pretty much rules out major third party support.

While the Wii's controllers were a major selling point, I also believe that the low cost of the system and the approachable games were also just as important. It wasn't proper competition to the PS3 and 360, but it was a step up from those lousy Vtech consoles (and more tween friendly). It worked great as a secondary console to play the Nintendo library, and as a cheap console for families that wanted an introduction to the latest console generation.

All Nintendo needs to do is to make sure it's affordable and have a decent library available at launch (and just before Christmas and summer break).

The reason the 3ds sold due to the fact that it's simply a better mobile. Not as powerful, but you don't expect a mobile to be as powerful as a home unit.

This is what brought out the third party support.

Nintendo is stupid if they feel they don't have some responsibility to appeal to 3rd parties.

But I believe they've wised up. Pride goes before a fall. And there's nothing more humbling than to get whooped by your competitors so badly.

Also Nintendo must cater to their consumers, many of which have moved on to buy systems that actually deliver. Power.

Nintendo cannot afford a wii u or wii strategy in a market that no longer supports it.

The NX MUST be powerful and it MUST appeal to developers as well as consumers.

It is not a mobile and mobile strategies will not help its cause.

At its core, It's a home system and home systems must have a reason to exist. That reason is something that a mobile has to compromise - power.

The lack thereof is the reason WHY devs deserted the wifi u.

It is why there was and is no appreciable library at launch or even now.

EA didn't want it because they knew it couldn't deliver what they needed. Some of the latest third party engines couldn't be reasonably used. Etc.

The NX home center must be perceived as powerful. More so than ps4. Or it will be Wii U all over again.

Nintendo wants its glory back. Not to be the third choice.

The 3DS outsells the Vita. Your argument is invalid.

That's not a very viable take.

The 3DS is a MOBILE system. POWER is not what it's supposed t excel at. That's where the Vita whiffed - they focused on screen and power - while system support and battery life sucked.

a HOME CONSOLE must be based on power.

In case you missed it, the PS4 and Xbox One both easily outsold the Wii U - and gained much more third party enthusiasm BECAUSE THEY WERE MUCH MORE POWERFUL.

And they did so at a reasonable price.

I didn't say the time for a cheapie mobile is past. I said the time for a cheapie console is.

Big difference between what I said, the reality of the PS4/X1 vs wii u in the home space, and what your example was.

There may be room for weak mobile units. But there is no tolerance for a home based system that is weak.

It makes no sense to have it weak since it doesn't need to be concerned about the compromises a mobile system does.

Watch. The NX will pack some muscle. Because if it doesn't, it will be a catastrophic failure.

#317524 What do you want the NX to be or what do you think it will be?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 13 December 2015 - 12:55 AM in Wii U Hardware

The time for a cheapie console is long past.

The Wiiu isn't a cheap console along the lines of the Wii, but it is definitely "downmarket in comparison to the competition.

No on wants that anymore. Not even kids.

If Nintendo wants to succeed, they need to pack it with power and find a way to keep it somewhat affordable.

Nintendo IP stands on its own.  But add third parties with the lure of better hardware than the other guys so they can strut their stuff, and maybe get daring with some major third party exclusives and they will succeed.

Anything along the lines of what they've been doing will not work. they must reinvent along the lines of a startup and go for the kill.

That means going after MS and Sony to take their lunch money.

And yes. It is possible for Nintendo to succeed doing that.

If the Wii U were more powerful than say the PS4, and cost the same or even a little more like the X1, no one would have bothered with PS4.

The market for the Wii is gone, It's on Apple TV, iPhone, and Amazon Fire TV now.

home based game consoles need to pack power to have a reason to exist. the NX home console module will likely do that.

HIGHLY IMPORTANT: f they want to do a "differentiating innovation" with the console, great. BUT DO NOT do so at the expense of making the console notably more powerful than the competition (i.e.: the very cool Wiimote combined with the decidedly uncool Wii using horribly outdated specs).

#315901 Nintendo gone Mobile/Nintendo NX system

Posted by Socalmuscle on 08 July 2015 - 01:55 PM in General Gaming

Nintendo has s tremendous opportunity here to reset their timeline.

Intro after the other guys with better hardware.

Recently some Nintendo exec comments brought some doubt though.

Sounds like they are going after the "new thing" again.

The last time they tried a game changer was the Wii.

And that was just a rehashed older gem system sold for more. With a gimmick that actually worked out.

The Wii u was cashing in on the tablet craze. Unfortunately it hurt the budget allocation that could have gone to CPU, GPU, ram etc.

I hope they do something that genuinely enhances how games are played.

But... If they lowball specs again (que reggies maniacal sales pitch about destroying everyone and kicking butt, taking names, etc. only to reveal horribly lackluster hardware...) it's a bad move in today's market.

And furthermore, if they are not technically superior to the other guys, I'm personally done.

The Wii u is a good system in my eyes. But they could have and should have done much more with the hardware.

Like it or not, hardware specs can easily break a game.

Let's not have that happen anymore. K?

#315751 AMD revealed the Nintendo NX?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 02 July 2015 - 02:56 PM in Wii U Hardware

It would be cool to go back to the "Nintendo Entertainment System" for the main console and the "GameBoy" portable monikers.

And if (hopefully) the system can back it up, bring back the "Now You're Playing with Power" ad campaign.

A Zelda upgrade along with a new Metroid, and Mario game along with third party titles at launch would be awesome.

These titles can also be ported to the GameBoy since there will be architectural similarities.

It's not about how "minor" the removals are.

It's Microsoft. It's a small test that will allow for more very soon.

enjoy.

WTF are you talking about. You just get a free OS. That's it. There are no micro transactions. They are doing this to prevent situations of people still using Windows XP when Windows 7 and 8 released. They just changed it up for the better so people are not stuck using old versions of Windows. They want to break away from the trend where more people get a new OS when they buy a new PC. Not that they can't go buy the OS people just generally only update windows by getting a new PC.

You'll see.

They are pretty much FORCED into trying new schemes.

Theire hardware business is a failure and their sofware is being eaten up by Google, Apple, and others, who make competing software for free, due to their business models roviding alternate revenue streams.

The removal of basic features that can be added back in...

No thanks.

Nobody likes that and people would in fact ratther PAY up front for the finished product.

Nothing is fee.

Windows 10 - Free to Play. Then nickle and dime along the way.

No thanks.

With every year, MS gets more irrelevent.

Wake me when they come u with an honest business model.

#312469 AMD revealed the Nintendo NX?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 29 April 2015 - 12:51 PM in Wii U Hardware

After much thought, my guess on the NX is that it will be a hybrid console that is the real successor to 3ds but can play Wii U games at home. Think smaller clamshell gamepad with removable analogs and with more features to take advantage of new handheld games.

It would drive sales (new Nintendo handhelds usually do) and with the extra device included, being basically a smaller Wii U customers will have everything needed to play the delayed Zelda.

I doubt it will be a hybrid.

If you're going to do that, you compromise.

The portable part is less portable and the powerhouse part is less powerful.

In these days of 3ds, iPhone, iPad, etc, portable really needs to be portable. And the console should be very very powerful. Otherwise, who needs one? What's the point? Might as well AirPlay your iPad to the TV....

I doubt it's a hybrid. But it will be powerful. And the handheld(s) will be powerful too, but very portable.

Microsoft tried the hybrid route with the Surface. Tried to make it both a laptop and a tablet. The end result was a compromise that was neither excellent as a powerful laptop, nor as a Thin, power saving, portable tablet. It failed.

I like to think Nintendo pays attention to where these concepts overlap.

The Wii u is someone of a hybrid compromise itself, taking the tablet idea and trying to fit in into the controller. It failed.

So let's see a console do what consoles are supposed to do, provide a lot of power which in turn provides the basis for lots of fun.

Then let's see a powerful handheld provide lots of fun in a thin, smallish form factor with the battery life that allows that fun to be had for a long time. Both of these can be run with various implementations of the same architecture (but with different clock, chipset, ram amount, type, etc.,) to enable various versions of the same titles to launch quickly. Maybe simultaneously.

lol clueless grammar Nazi,scary.

Anyway here is the trailer with English dubs. There is a telethia in the trailer which seems to nearly confirm it has a story tie with XB. I been theorizing that this will tie with XB but we shall see. May just be a nod.Heck maybe they loosely tie in all the Xeno games as there is so many nods to Xenogears and Xenosaga.

That trailer just sold the game.

Wow.

Every sci fi fans dream.

Perfect.

A couple of Months back I looked at all the trailers and thought the reveal was the prettiest, unfortunately this is why. It sucks but it will still deliver.

It was.

Due to its cinematic composition.

But...when you see the SAME city later, you notice the graphics were actually bumped up a few notches.

The game is graphically far superior now.

This game is going to be awesome!

Ex Machina is probably the only game (since the original Zelda and Mass Effect 2) I've ever playeed through 3 times all thew way becuase it engrossed me into it.

Would be a great NX Third Party Launch title. Definitive Edition. LOL

#311689 Zelda Wii u delay = NX launch title?

More like exactly what I said because it's fact. Making a trailer or demo they don't have time for. I rather not get into specifics like a 3Dude post and have a war and peace sized post but it really takes a lot of time and extra effort they just don't have right now.

It will be for Wii U and only Wii U on release.

More like a sound business decision as historical precedent suggests.

Nintendo has many projects and instead of having two games of the year candidate the other being xenoblade chronicles x just focus on one

Which is actually the "problem" with Nintendos lack of third party support.

You're limited to one.

Vs. other consoles you can have multiple.

Hopefully that changes with the Wii u successor.

#311393 Zelda Wii u delay = NX launch title?

I think I'm fine with it if Nintendo pulls a Twilight and puts this on the next console also as a launch title. But I want to be able to upgrade from the Wii U version for little or no cost.

If there is a wii u version. Agreed.

And having that game at launch did wonders for the Wii.

Nearly 6 million copies sold on wii vs a little over 1 million for GameCube.

judge-judy-shake-my-head-gif.gif

Why don't they just take every game coming out for Wii U now, X, StarFox, Yoshi etc and just delay them all as well to make launch titles for the NX?

Doesn't make any sense. Nintendo built this game for the ground up for the Wii U, it's one of Nintendo's biggest franchises and it being the first real open world Zelda... it's just taking time and they rather not rush it to meet a hard deadline and give Wii U owners a meh experience. They want to leave a lasting impression of Zelda on the Wii U, something memorable and exciting and that is what they are working to do.

Now ask yourself... "Would any other of these titles have the epic impact of Zelda?"

Nintendo isn't going to abandon the wii u. Not their style.

But why take the biggest, best game they've ever made and not give it the best chance to succeed?

Sure it will find success on the Wii u. But it will be limited only by the popularity of the wii u itself.

But consider that nintendo also stated during the announcement of the Wii u delay that the biggest issue for them is having the big guns ready for system launch when they release new consoles.

I'm not a prophet. I don't know what Nintendo is going to do.

But it wouldn't surprise me if they did prefer to have this as an NX launch title.

And it would make financial sense as well. They are obviously pouring tons of resources into this game. Be nice to get those back in spades.

The biggest baddest Zelda ever running on hardware that allows it to curbstomp the othe other guys visually, etc. And possibly with some new innovations we haven't heard of before? Easy to see how that's a recipe for success.

Even though My wii u hasn't been all I wanted it to be and I'm STILL WAITING FOR THE KINDS OF GAMES I WANT TO PLAY (x, Zelda, metroid, etc) I won't be bothered at all by this game going to a new system. Normally I would be. But the Wii u is not a success, despite the wonderful efforts going to produce great software for it.

No reason to deliver/export the best luxury car you have and strap it to a sinking ship.

#311341 Zelda Wii u delay = NX launch title?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 01 April 2015 - 07:57 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Serious thought here.

New possibility for the game to be better obviously it could be better in a few ways simply due to better hardware.

But the real reason I believe this is that Nintendowill NOT be showing the game at E3 this year. Very strange given that one years E3 is definitely the time to hype a game coming out the following year.

So next years E3 will actually promo the game, which will also be about the time the NX IS FIRST OFICIALLY MENTIONED in a hype capacity.

Given the recent remarks from miyamoto and iwata about the big game launch issue combined with the realization that the wii u is a downhill proposition, it makes sense for nintendo to continue to support wii u, but not pouring liquid gold into a vat with a hole in it.

If the NX launches with Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. It would likely be an instant and possibly unparalleled success, creating instant momentum that will built the mindshare and free hype that will serve to encourage consumers and developers alike.

Personally, though I love the wii u, I feel this is for the best. For the game, for nintendo, and ultimately for the gamer who would've bedt serv d to play this amazing game on the best hardware possible.

Anyone else suspect this?

I applud Nintendo for constantly trying new things.

But just once, I'd like them to buckle down, nail the tried and true, while whooping on everyone else at traditional gaming.

Oh well.

I just hope this things is spec'd to the heavens.

POWER.
