#304134 This Teen White Girl posts racist tweet on Ferguson saying Go back to Africa

Posted by Zinix on 29 November 2014 - 08:47 PM in The Café

A Senior White Girl from Illinois posted an offensive tweet that caught on quickly where she felt the wrath of the internet as her reaction to the Ferguson protests against white police Officer Darren Wilson went viral.

The un-named girl (though it might be Lesli based on the twitter account name) wrote "I don't feel sorry for black people. If you hate so much, Go Bach (sic) TO AFRICA. We should have never brought you"

Before long she was receiving a lot of criticism from people calling her ignorant and point out that America had already been populated by the Indians before the white Europeans arrived.

But she didn't delete her post and at one point said "i regret i made a typo" then she went on to point out that Whites own the world and they'd be the majority population now if they hadn't let the minorities live...

Then people took her information and found out what school she went to as now the Oakwood High School was forced to apologize as her opinon doesn't reflect their ideals...but they have yet to decide if she will be punished.

Despite what other people are saying the on the internet, I thought it was pretty good. It was much better than what I expected, and I like it so far. Hopefully though they don't decide to introduce a lot of different characters.

#299356 Call of Duty: AW projected to sell 3 million copies less than Ghosts

Posted by Zinix on 28 September 2014 - 06:39 PM in General Gaming

This is according to Cinema Blend, who reports the Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia expects Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare to ship 15% fewer copies in the fourth quarter of 2014, which equates to 17 million instead of 20 million.

Call of Duty experienced a down year in 2013 despite Ghosts selling $1 billion into retail—not actual sales to customers—in its first 24 hours.

Players may be fatigued by the annual blockbuster franchise, as Call of Duty: Ghosts was met with somewhat lukewarm reception. Bhatia expects this may lead players to holding off on purchasing Advanced Warfare unless “word-of-mouth or reviews are strong”.

According to Bhatia 2014 will likely be a down year for PS3 and Xbox 360 sales—50% and 46% respectively—and consumer indecision about upgrading to PS4 and Xbox One may be factors working against cross-generation titles like Advanced Warfare.

He does concede that Advanced Warfare could perform better than its predecessor due to the “lack of competition” this year, as Battlefield Hardline has been delayed to early 2015. Activision’s latest billion dollar franchise, Destiny, has performed well early in its release. It remains to be seen if the Xbox One exclusive Halo: The Master Chief Collection will cut into Advanced Warfare’s sale numbers.

And here begins the sinking ship of the Call of Duty franchise. We won't miss you.

#299355 Microsoft Indonesia president: Windows 9 will be free to Windows 8 owners

Posted by Zinix on 28 September 2014 - 06:34 PM in The Café

We already know quite a bit about Windows 9 (or whatever Microsoft decides to call it). Thanks to the president of Microsoft Indonesia, we might now know another detail about Microsoft’s upcoming OS—its price.

According to Indonesian news site Detik.com (via BGR), Andreas Diantoro, the president of Microsoft Indonesia, confirms that Windows 9 will be a free upgrade for all Windows 8 users.

Why it matters: Users are becoming more accustomed to free operating system updates, given the fact that even major iOS, Android, and OS X updates are gratis. And after the negative reception Windows 8 received, Microsoft has some added incentive to earn back its users’ trust. With that in mind, Windows 9 is just as much a chance to change the tenor of discussion surrounding Windows as it is a new version of the OS.

Taking cues from Windows 8.1, OS X

According to BGR, Windows 9 will be available as a free download, much like Apple’s updates to OS X–and much like Windows 8.1, which was a free update provided to Windows 8 and Windows RT users through the Windows Store.

We don’t yet know if Windows 9 will be free to users of earlier versions of the OS, such as Windows 7 or Vista. A free upgrade for all would make sense, though, in that it would make it easier for Microsoft to entice as many of its users as possible to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

Microsoft has yet to announce a release date for Windows 9—let alone an official name—but we should find out more at the company’s September 30th media event.

Finally Microsoft is doing something right. They're finally becoming for the people.

#299040 Blizzard Cancels Next-Gen MMO Titan

Posted by Zinix on 23 September 2014 - 06:26 PM in General Gaming

Blizzard has officially canceled development on its mysterious next-generation massively multiplayer game Titan. The company confirmed the news to Polygon in a recent interview.

This revelation comes after at least seven years in development and word last year that the developer was going back to the drawing board to reevaluate the project.

Speaking to Polygon, Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime reiterated that the company has technically never officially announced Titan, though it hasn't been shy to talk about the game over the past seven years. "We had created World of Warcraft, and we felt really confident that we knew how to make MMOs," Morhaime said. "So we set out to make the most ambitious thing that you could possibly imagine. And it didn't come together.

"We didn't find the fun," Morhaime continued. "We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no."

#299038 Japanese Condom Cookbook to Raise Awareness For Protected Sex

Posted by Zinix on 23 September 2014 - 06:19 PM in The Café

In the past several years condom usage in Japan has continued to fall, resulting in a dramaticrise in cases of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, a 2008 global survey * put Japan in bottom 3rd for condom usage, despite estimates that the country produces between 20-30% of all condoms. So to help raise awareness for condoms in Japan, and close the gap between producer and user, Japanese authors Kyosuke Kagami and Opanponhave co-written a book that incorporates condoms into one of Japan’s most beloved customs: cooking.

#298526 Kotaku: "Super Smash Bros. Is Wrecking Some People's 3DS Handhelds"

Posted by Zinix on 14 September 2014 - 08:37 AM in General Gaming

Now that Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is out on, well, the 3DS in Japan, people are playing it. And some of those people are reporting that the game is resulting in broken Slide Pads.

The Slide Pad is a defining feature for the 3DS, and according to some Super Smash Bros. owners, it doesn't appear strong enough to stand up to what the game dishes out.

Players, like Twitter user ZELDA96320045 (below), are even seeing their Slide Pads coming off during the demo. Last week, this was reported on Japanese internet forum 2ch. After the game went on sale this weekend, there have been further 2ch reports of this happening.

Others experienced Slide Pad destruction on the day the game was released in Japan.

#298520 LAPD mistakes actress for prostitute

Danièle Watts, an African-American actress who played Coco in Django Unchained and appears as Martin Lawrence's daughter on FX's Partners, says she was handcuffed and detained on Thursday by police in Los Angeles who suspected she was a prostitute.

According to Watts, she was approached by two police officers after kissing her husband Brian James Lucas, who is white, in public. Watts was reportedly asked to show ID and, when she refused, she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car. They let her go after finding out who she was.

I don't see the wrong here, it was a common mistake.

#298343 Burger King Phone Mixup Inspires Hilarious Series Of Pranks

Posted by Zinix on 10 September 2014 - 05:46 PM in The Café

There's a guy in Chicago whose office phone somehow got listed on a Burger King website as the contact number for one of their local restaurants. As you might imagine, he gets a lot of calls from people looking to complain about service, apply for a job, or check on when their shift starts. But rather than complain, our friend made the best of the situation by pranking the crap out of everyone who calls him.

Above is a recording of one of those pranks, in which "Kevin" takes a call from a new Burger King hire who is just wondering when her first day is. "Kevin," who is a pretty damn good prankster for an amateur, lays out a series of nightmare scenarios that the poor woman will have to participate in, including "feathering and butchering" and "blood duty." He isn't completely heartless, though, and comes clean at the end of the call. They both have a good laugh, and everybody goes merrily on their way.

Below is another recording that the prankster sent to us, in which he plays the role of a salty Burger King manager blowing off a woman who calls to complain about rainbowty service:

#298339 Destiny General Discussion Thread- The Game of The Year, Game of The Forever.

Posted by Zinix on 10 September 2014 - 05:31 PM in General Gaming

Guys it has sold 500 million in the first 24 hours.

London, UK – 10th September, 2014 – Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced today that the company sold more than $500 million of Destiny into retail stores and first parties worldwide as of day one, making the game the biggest new video game franchise launch in history.

“Based on extraordinary audience demand, retail and first party orders worldwide have exceeded $500 million for Destiny,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “This industry milestone marks another blockbuster success for our company and demonstrates our unique ability to create some of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world. The success of Destiny, along with the recent introduction of Blizzard Entertainment’s Hearthstone, is further validation of our unique capabilities to create great entertainment franchises from the ground up.”

Destiny launched at over 11,000 midnight openings around the world, as fans in over 178 countries (Source: Radian6) shared their fervour on YouTube and in social media.

“Since the beginning, we’ve been confident that our investment and belief in Destiny would pay off. But not many people believed we’d be able to say it did so on day one,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Destiny is officially the biggest new franchise launch in our industry’s history. It’s also the highest-selling day one digital console release in history. We have more confidence than ever that Destiny will become one of the iconic franchises of this generation and Activision’s next billion dollar brand. Most importantly, it’s just a great game which we can’t stop playing. A big thanks to our incredibly talented team and partners who helped make this happen; most importantly, our partners at Bungie.”

#298080 Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Info (Claire, Barry's Daughter, 1080p/60FPS,...

Posted by Zinix on 06 September 2014 - 07:35 PM in General Gaming

Earlier this morning my issue of the November Gamesmaster Magazine turned up in the post and with it were some exciting details for the recently announced Resident Evil: Revelations 2, set for release early 2015 for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Many of the details revealed include the return of Claire Redfield, the daughter of Barry Burton, plot and enemy details and much more. This information was revealed when Gamesmaster sat down with Resident Evil: Revelations 2 producer Michiteru Okabe.

I will list some of those exciting details below, but if you want to read the article in full, then you can pick up the November issue of Gamesmaster Magazine. I have also taken some images direct from the magazine, for which you can find below.

Claire Redfield will return as the playable lead and it is said that “In the time since we last saw her (Claire), she’s grown to be a seasoned veteran.”

Claire will be joined throughout the campaign with Moira Burton, daughter of the legendary Barry Burton.

The campaign will be playable in co-op or singleplayer.

When playing as Claire, her style will be more combat focused. Whereas Moira will be supplying Claire with health herbs, provided the flashlight and general support.

Claire will be the only player death that will result in a Game Over, one of Moira’s key roles will be to help keep Claire alive (though Claire can obviously heal herself).

The story will take place on an abandoned island detention facility.

The campaign will begin with Claire and Moira awakening after being abducted.

The events will take place between the events of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6.

Gameplay will be much more Survival Horror orientated (much like the first Resident Evil: Revelations), bringing the series back to its roots with less over the top action, unlike Resident Evil 5 and 6.

Fan feedback has played a part in the development of Resident Evil: Revelations 2.
Producer Okabe said that “The project has been finding the line between listening to fan feedback and also doing something different to confound expectations.”

Okabe also said that “I want this to be both a game that doesn’t lose what made its predecessor great, while also bringing something new and exciting to the Resident Evil series.” He also added that “Achieving that lofty goal by bringing together past and future will make this an itchy-tasty prospect indeed.”

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will feature a new “Afflicted” enemy type, which “may look like zombies, but are in fact something quite different.”

The Afflicted enemy will be both fast and able to deal heavy damage to the player. It is also said that they will force the player to decide whether to take them head-on, sneak up using stealth and applying a take-down or the player can run for the hills and “preserve ammo”.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will run at 1080p and 60fps (for the PC and new gen versions at least).

Source: GAF

I'm interested in this though. I hope the revelations series takes over the original series. I'm kind of glad that they're using zombies this time around instead of the ooze. Hopefully the online mode is as good .

#298078 Nationwide fast food protest Thursday will support higher minimum wage, unions

Posted by Zinix on 06 September 2014 - 07:32 PM in The Café

Thursday might be a tough one for fans of the Big Mac, as the "Fight for $15" movement is set to stage a massive, nationwide protest in the pursuit of higher minimum wage and the right to form a union. In more than 150 cities throughout the United States, fast food workers employed at McDonald's, Wendy's, KFC, Domino's and the like will walk off the job in an effort to spur management into increasing their base salary to $15 an hour.

During a speech in Milwaukee on Labor Day, President Obama was quoted saying, "You know what, if I were looking for a job that lets me build some security for my family, I’d join a union. If I were busting my butt in the service industry and wanted an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work, I’d join a union. …I’d want a union looking out for me." These words have quickly become a rallying cry for organizations like Fast Food Forward and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the two groups who are spearheading the "Fight for $15" campaign.

Buoyed by these words, and having already seen success in Seattle (where $15 an hour is on its way to becoming the city-wide standard), Fast Food Forward and the SEIU are poised to make their biggest statement to date. Using the ongoing issue of growing income inequality as a springboard, the movement claims that the only way to get everyone on an even keel is to raise the wages paid to our lowest income employees. Understandably, this goal has set some segments of society on edge.

Now, it would be foolish to side with that small contingent who claim that the minimum wage should be abolished. Those folks have stated that a federally enforced minimum wage has the negative effect of killing jobs and raising prices (which in turn acts to discourage consumers from buying stuff). Without such a weighty anchor around a corporation's neck, they would be free to pay people the amount they actually deserve, which would in turn lower prices (because companies wouldn't have as many expenses) and increase the number of available jobs. These experiments, however, are always run in the context of a perfect capitalistic society.

Guess what, folks, America isn't a perfect capitalist society (though it'd be super if we were). Corporations don't care about their employees as much they'd like their customers to believe. Corporations are in the business of making money. In spite of recent court decisions that claim companies do have religious preferences, they still don't have loyalty (just Google "corporate inversion" if you want to know what I'm talking about) and they're under no sense of obligation to make their employees' lives any better than they absolutely need to be. If left to their own devices, companies would be totally fine with moving us back to the partial fiefdoms of the Industrial Revolution.

It's due to that lack of compassion that forces the need for minimum wage in this country, and it's due to ongoing lobbying on behalf of corporations that the minimum wage is so criminally low in this country. As long as the conversation's been going on, you've no doubt seen some chart or graph (like this one from the Pew Research Center) that explains that as the cost of living has increased, the value of minimum wage has plummeted. People making the federally mandated $7.25 an hour are currently living in a more complete state of relative poverty than any generation that's come before. Most of this has to do with Congress' seeming unwillingness to consider its poorest citizens by legislating regular increases in the minimum wage.

While we're there, here's another factoid that's being bandied about: if Congress had regularly raised the minimum wage to coincide with cost of living, the federal minimum wage today would be $10.90 an hour according to raisetheminimumwage.com. That would theoretically guarantee that fast food and service employees would be making a minimum wage designed to allow them to live with moderate comfort. It wouldn't be an easy life, of course, but it would still allow a low income individual to, say, afford rent in a two-bedroom apartment (which is impossible for any fast food worker at the moment). That's not all "woe to the poor" sentiment, either, because according to the Department of Labor, "more than 600 economists, seven of them Nobel Prize winners in economics, have signed onto a letter in support of raising the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2016." In other words, tons of people who should know, are advocating for an increase in the minimum wage.

These people are asking for too much money. No way they deserve 15 dollars to reheat frozen food.
