I confirm. My current setup IS on my 24" computer monitor (Asus VW246H). It works wonders. If you want sound, your monitor needs to have built-in speakers (like mine). Otherwise, you'll only get the sound from the GamePad.
By the way, guys, HDMI also transports audio.

you just plug it right in, but from my understanding you wont get audio
I heard the Wii U looks ugly on a computer monitor.
