That is cool. What is the mmo? I vaguely remember something about that. To bad it isn't here. I like transparent mmo's.
But seriously ff14 obviously has alot if content and will grow. There are problems on the PS3 version.
But what is cool you can use your characters on pc, ps3 or ps4 when that is available, which obviously will be better.

That is valid BUT...I for one do not game on PC and I like to get the best version available. I have a Wii u, ps 3, Xbox 360 and if course a PS 4 coming. ..
Point being there are still alot of options available on launch day.
Those other options are true but they are still new games, not 1 year old ports. Big difference.
Did I mention 2 mmo's?
The support far outweighs the Wii U.
the wii u has 1 mmo. Although its only in japan and transparently is lacking in quality. Atleast its exclusive and shows that MMO gaming is viable.

I revisited the PS4 launch and launch window games and I am slightly impressed
http://m.ign.com/wik...4_Launch_Titles
Also Final Fantasy 14 is supposed to be out in February.
I mean good Lord. .. there 2 MMO's available if you are into that. ...I am' I have ff14 on ps3.
Anyway this will be a monster launch. Sony did this part right. Now let's see who makes more money.
all those mmo's are already on pc though, and the unimpressive thing is most of everything else is not exlusive at all.

I see mention of the "throwing money for best version" in a way i see this as something that should be illegal. Might as well be crippling their games on the other versions too! (though some companies i freelanced for DID do this)
it would be diffrent if they asked them or financed them to make use of a tech that only their system has to highlight it such as the wii u gamepad or kinect.

they wont... the funny thing is with all the Wii U is "underpowered" talk... watch how quick ports of your favorite game gets ported to Wii U if it starts selling like hotcakes. i can tall you guys this Wii U is more than powerful enough to get multiplats from any engine we know of.
ya because 3rd parties were all over the wii u when it was selling millions at launch

it makes me a sad developer too. and the problem (which makes me sad also) is that indies are TRYING but they just never are tight enough or have enough quality to be those amazing games (or they try to be artsy...) what we need is balance. We dont need interactive stories (well we do its just over saturation) we can have a story but dont make it overshadow the game
and you can have great art but dont put the art department in charge of the game, too many times do i see artists getting top billing when the programers are what make a game accually playable as a game.
and it really is a trap, because they are focusing on graphics and story they end up with these sums which are outrageous. On the flipside they could be selling less titles (lets fae it too many people buy based on how great a game looks visually) but will end up making more per dollar spent because they would not have spent %80 of the budget just on graphics. (which is why you see lots of sequels which use the same assets, to make up the money they spent on the first game)
but you would need smaller teams, meaning less cost to development, meaning more teams can be put together, which means more projects which means more overall dollars back per dollar spent! which in the end means, you can spend the same ammount of money on multiple games and make mope money per dollar on all of those games combined!

It should be interesting to see what the developers say when they're making lots of games with PS4 touchpad integration, even though that pad has 1/100th of the uses the gamepad's screen does.
with less choices and options they do not need to be creative
More excuses.
So there wasnt a "please develop for us" coming from Nintendo. So what?
Bethesda also bears responsibility for not actively inquiring about the forthcoming console.
It's not like it was a secret. Nintendo invited input. They didn't go out begging for it with flowers and boxes of chocolate.
This is political bravado. And it's stupid.
The fact is, the console is out. Bethesda can make games for it.
There is no cosmic rule that they can't do so just because the launch has past.
It's Bethesda making excuses, while trying to bully Nintendo into giving them a greater presence in the future.
The gaming industry as a whole would be much better off without this crap.
Everyone wants to be the big shot, overstepping their bounds.
Bethesda makes great games sometimes (fallout 3, skyrim). But they are usually pretty. Jacked up with freezes, glitches, cache issues, etc. so it would behoove them to try some humble pie. Not to mention forming a real code cleanup/optimization/quality control team for all of their games moving forward.
gaming would be better if it was not about politics. It needs to be about the games, putting out something that people want.
Now everyone likes to pretend they are art. No they are products! Does not mean those products will not be seen as art, but there is just too much of a focus on making games LOOK good rather than being fun.

Ok so I pay fourty quid a year for the service, but the service offers lots of free games, hence why I asked if the WiiU version had extra content due to high price of the game and higher spec console than the PS3.
like i said, you subsidize the games with that fee, and publishers set the price point on the eshop.
they are not free.

How come Eshop harges so much for AC3? It's free on PS+.
Does it have extra content?
its not free its subsidized by a fee
as for the eshop version, prices are set by publishers.

That depends on microsoft. I remember they shut down og xbox REAL fast.... But I dont think that will be the case this time. I think cross gen will go maybe for a year or two, maybe longer.
a stupid idea for their bottom line, but with their comment about playing the xbox 360 if they want whatever kinda makes it look like it may become the windows XP of consoles

Its been confirmed there will be no ambassador program. Come on people you all saw this coming so deal with it. I don't understand why everyone feels that they deserve something! why should nintendo be the ones giving free games every time they have a price drop! I think it was a mistake they gave those free games on 3DS because now everyone is a B!tch about not getting free things on WiiU. The amount of whining and complaining is getting old.
http://mynintendonew...gram-for-wii-u/

sorry to rain on your parade, but since when do customer service reps count as a source of confirmation?
she used the word "no plans" because she had not been given anything to say otherwise.
no i am not saying it will happen nor am i saying it wont. Im saying its not confirmed until it comes from the top.

backwards compatibility is built into the wii u design, parts that run the virtual wii are also used to run the wii u. There is nothing you can take out without having to add something new in to compensate. It already is the lowest per dollar that you will get, doing this will only RAISE the price.

i dont think we need a controller for the few games that use them. It will be easier (and cheaper) just to remake the game that uses the new controls

see ive been dealing with that theory and im calling bullsh!t. if shin'en can make a engine for the console and take advantage of it capabilities... i dont want to hear crap about companies worth 10 times more then them having problems putting money into the console to take advantage of its hardware... that excuse is getting old.
Shin'en cannot be compared. They are the people who do the impossible.

just because a game uses the gamepad as a realtime map or an inventory does not make it bad usage.
it adds a quick always on interface that does not get in the way of the game. Unlike pause screen maps or minimaps or inventory management of old, it streamlines the process to near or byond PC drag and drop levels or point and click management.

just wish this was a big time developer putting Wii U through its paces and making positive comments. its sad most people dont know who shin'en is
Big names will not put much R&D into a console until it proves that it will make them money beyond what that R&D will cost them. So they will not try to reach into things like this until later into a system cycle. Recently with games being expensive already they always cut corners in optimization. (putting most the game-play and optimization into designers so they can say OO LOOK PRETTY!)
Even Nintendo has been falling into the optimization trap, but mostly due to them having to learn a ton of new things in a short amount of time while trying to keep a ship afloat while everyone tries to sink it.
Shin'en on the other hand is not under pressure to rush themselves, and being who they are, they can do things at a much quicker pace. Nintendo probably could never buy them over, but if they have not already done so, it may be worth having them over to help them spruce up the documentation and maybe show them what they may have missed.

Nintendo says you shouldn't use flash drives because the constant reading/writing to the disk will cause it to fail quickly, while a hard drive will not. No idea if this is true or not.
yes all flash media have a finite read/write ability. Each sector will fail after a while.
always back up your flash devices. (it is 1 reason i dont buy ssd)
ssd's are expensive, WILL fail and are limited capacity.
data also degrades over time.

@CUD that a great idea for nintendo to release an WiiU XL in 2014.that would a be a redesigned wii u console 50% bigger than the original model. then bundle it with a new version of the pro controller and game with a DVD/Blu-ray player for $299.99 and replace the gamepad sounds like a good business decision to me.anybody agree?
why limit the gamepad demographic?

Hallo
Is there any setting on the Wii u, so that the Game pad wont turn on, when you turn the Wii u on?
Reason, i barely never use the gamepad, prefer my Pro controller. Only use it for games who dosnt support Pro, and MH3 when playing online.
only way i can see is to desync it

Yes, I know what wip means. Though it doesnt mean its not in. In fact it means the exact opposite here, its a project change log, not an expiriment or an attempt where the outcome is unknown. Its in, its up, and its running. If it wasnt, they wouldnt have added it to the projects change log. It simply has a lot of room for optimization and platform specific fixes.
and yeah, its not on cpu, the gpu is handling it. Its multithreaded not multicore. Gpu's have butt tons of threads.
dx11 multithread rendering specifically allowd the cpu to send more data to the gpu, to be worked on simultaneously, so no one processor is waiting on anothers thread to be able to finish a process.
Dx11's multithread rendering is one of the biggest improvements made to the api this version.
i am saying that it kind of hurts the 176 theory more because if 176 was true than no one in their right minds would waste more then one thread on it.but obviously, they can and it works better that way. 8 units, but those units have lots of mystery with people wishing only to low ball them
