The highest selling third-party game on the Wii U wasn’t even close to being “profitable”, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed.

228812-zombieu1.jpg

Zombie U, a launch title for the Wii U, failed to make a profit and the publisher has no plans for a sequel.

Speaking to GI.Biz, Guillemot said the Wii U exclusive didn’t even come close to recovering the investment the publisher made on the game.

He went on to say that the failure of the game as a Wii U exclusive was the main reason for switching Rayman Legends from being a Wii U exclusive to a multi-platform game.

“We must find a way to ensure the creativity of those games could have a big enough audience,” he said. “We hope it will take off. At the moment, we’ve said ‘let’s do through Christmas and see where we are from there.”

Peter Moore, EA chief operation officer, has also elaborated about why the publisher isn’t actively supporting the Wii U.

“We were there with four games for them [at launch]. It’s been a disappointment when you look at sell-through and, as a company, we have to be very judicious where we deploy our resources,” he told GI.Biz.

Moore cited the lack of online engagement on the console as being one of the main reasons for its titles making little impact on the system.

“The lack of online engagement that we see on Wii U [is troubling]. It’s so integral to what we do. They’re so small it’s hardly worth running the servers. It seems like a box that’s out of sync with the future of EA – which is one that gives a real social feel to our games. The Wii U feels like an offline experience right now.”

Ouch. That must hurt Nintendo's pride. The best 3rd party game on Nintendo's Wii-U and it wasn't even close to being profitable. Looks like we are not getting a sequel then.  :(

Well in all honesty I understand where Ubisoft is coming from. Same with EA, just they need to invest now and reap the benefits later. I'm sure PS4 and Xbox One versions of Watch_Dogs won't make money, but the PS3 and 360 versions will. How much the Wii U version will make is undetermined right now

I would like to know what their budget was for this game then.  Sales so far would reflect a 10-12 million dollar return for Ubisoft, and this game was sure no AAA budget title.  It was developed in about 18 months.  Not to mention that there is no reason for Ubisoft to dicontinue sales for this game anytime soon.  They could easily sell this game for the following 4 years on the eshop for $15-20 and rack up millions more in profit.  I would hope Ubisoft is smart enough to continue to push Zombi U this holiday season.  Drop the price to $39.99 and run some advertising.  There is no reason for this game to not have decent legs.  Its still one of the more innovative games for Wii U, and that will most likely remain true this holiday season.  How about a 30 second Wii U Ubisoft commercial that quickly showcases a handful for thier games for Wii U this holiday, finish with Zombi U "now only $39.99."

It doesnt make sense because Yves never said it.

Chris Morris made it up, and used a rearranged completely unrelated quote from an interview in june Read the actual source article.

Morris made it up.

Well this sure is misleading :P

I find it incredibly hard to believe that a journalist writing for a gaming site would hop on the Wii U hate bashing bandwagon and write blatant lies about it :P

Therefore I will accept the reality created by mr morris that the wii u is doomed.... Time to sell my wii u and use the money I get to preorder a console that wont be dead after the first year....xbox one here I come

I didn't like ZombiU. It wasn't the type of game I'd enjoy, so I sold it.

Sucks that it's sold abysmally. Iwata really should do a Nintendo Direct with only 3rd party games.

Except for, you know, the fact that multiple news sites are reporting this as a direct quote from Yves. :/

That doesn't prove anything.

Sigh.... This is why they can get away with.

No one has any critical thinking skills anymore.

On every single site you linked too, look for a little blue word, it says 'source', or its in a sentence explaining where the info came from, in ign's case the words game industry are in blue and is the link. Click on it.

They all take you to the same place.

Look at the name of the author.

Now read the article.

Its made up bs. Chris Morris IMPLIES he had an interview, actually talked to these people.

He didnt, all of his quotes, are clipped directly from other interviews, from other news sites, WITHOUT being sourced or credited, (thats plagarism kids) Preceded by a loaded fallaceous often fictional paraphrasing of said quote.

The quote he used for ubisoft, was from an interview that had absolutely nothing to do with Zombi U.

Its fake. Hes the one saying it, not yves. Even in his article, Yves never mentions zombi u OR Rayman in quote.

It doesn't matter if he had an interview with the guy or not, it's still a direct quote from Yves. :|

He's stating that that they're going to try with Wii U through Christmas, and then evaluate where they're at to make sure that this is what they want. Either way you look at it, this does not bode well for Nintendo.

It matters HHUGELY

1. He NEVER SAID 1 WORD ABOUT ZOMBI U.

2. Thats not the actual quote, Morris changed that too to fit the narrative he was making up. Heres the real quote from a REAL release made by yves less than two weeks prior.

“We will continue to support the Wii U this
Christmas, and we’re expecting it to take off
in terms of sales. And we’ll review what
happened again at the beginning of next
year.”

Big difference.

Excuse me for not checking every article to make sure a quote is 100% correct?

I'm not sure that I should be apologizing for trusting a news source that's supposed to check these things for me. :/

Agreed- why not stick around at least through the Christmas sales cycle in some form. eShop would be the way to go but also I would think that once you have the set up costs for DVD distribution, it's not that big of a deal to create more.

You shouldnt be apologizing. Thats not what Im trying to accomplish. You SHOULD be able to trust game jourmalists to deliver the straight news. Its their job, the reason for their existence.

But... You cant trust them. They are at best, by large incompentent, and at worst, provably compromised as in they actually WORK FOR, worked for, or are trying to work for publishers and products from those publishers they report on.

They lie, the misconstrue the truth, and they treat you like you are too stupid to catch on, when the reason you didnt catch on was simply BECAUSE YOU TRUSTED THEM TO DO THEIR JOB!

Thats dirty.

Im not trying to get you to apologize. Im just trying to get you aware. Next time, try it. Look a little deeper. Its not even hard. The amount of provably pure bs these sites spew is staggering.

And now, you got a glimpse of it in action. You see it. Thats what I wanted.

I posted this the other day in the general gaming forum....

http://news.yahoo.co...-210519219.html

Definitely bias against Nintendo, especially when it doesn't give the breakdown of Vita vs. 3ds, nor total sales- and it also fails to mention that Vita has been out a lot longer than the Wii U.
