If all the troubleshooting solutions and basic syncing does not work, contact Nintendo directly.

i figured out how to fix this problem

1.turn off both the gamepad and console

2.unplug console

3.hold the power button on the console for 10 secs.

4.plug the console back in

5.turn the system on using the gamepad, at first it will say the gamepad is not connected then shortly after it will register the device.

ive used these steps twice now and they actually work!

for the step 5, my gamepad still can not control the console, then how can i turn the system on by using the gamepad?

thx a lot!

thx for the video, but i think most player who has this problem does the exactly same in the video, but we were stuck after entering the 4 card symbols.

problem solved! i were using the BenQ w1500 projector to play the Wii U as a video output, it was connect by wireless HDMI, after i tried to use normal HDMI cable to connect the Wii U then it works, this trouble may caused by the signal disturb from any wireless receiver, and after paired the gamepad and Wii U, I can keep using the projector in wireless.

hope u guys can fix it too!   : )

I had this issue and found that the connection between the game pad and console was intermittent, the symbol sync worked occasionally.

I managed to make the connection persistent by turning of the standby mode and notifications. Not sure why it worked but hopefully it helps someone else.

Topic is over a year old but for future reference. If you have a lot of wireless devices just know it can get crowded and hard for stuff to talk to one another in a noisy room of wireless signals.
