Pikmin 3 is the long awaited sequel to Pikmin 2 that was on the Gamecube, now its finally here on the Wii U, was it worth the wait?

The game starts off with 3 explorers, Alph, Brittany, and Charlie. The trio are set off towards the galaxy to find food resources reason being that their planet Koppai have exhausted their food supply, they manage to find a planet with edible resources, which they named: PNF-404. Once they arrived their destination, something horrible happens, separating the trio apart in their journey. You play as Charlie for a few minutes, then cuts to Alph to set off and find your comrades.

The game does a good job of explaining the controls to new players who may have not played the other Pikmin games, its very well explained in almost anything in the game, especially the parts were Pikmin are dying in front of you such as drowning or being set on fire that the first Pikmin did not trigger a cutscene on what to do or what is happening. Weak spots, tricks, there all explained. So don't worry if you'll be confused when you play the game for the first time.

Gameplay

If you played Pikmin 1 and 2, its the same in Pikmin 3, but with a few neat tricks and Pikmin abilities,

I recommend you to use the Wii remote & nunchuck, pointing controls are 1 to 1. Playing on either Gamepad or pro controller seems a bit off when you want to throw Pikmin in a direction. But there is a mini map on the gamepad to help you see where you've gone in the map or show Pikmin who you've accidentally lost.

Instead of having separate onions for different kinds of Pikmin, they fuse together and create a mixed colors of the Pikmin you have found.

Yes you can use Off TV play with a simple press on the minus button.

There is a camera system you can post on Miiverse...But its not the best to be honest, its there for you to post a really good screenshot.

Visuals

This is the best Ive seen on Wii U so far showing the Wii U's  graphic potential, the water physics are really good, the lighting effects are impressive, the enemies look next gen. The off TV play holds up really well.

Replay value

If you are all done with the campaign, there is a multiplayer mode called 'Bingo Battle' were you play as Alph and the second player as Olimar, its fun if you have a girlfriend to play with or if you have kids. You can also replay days you've already completed, such as finding Bettina again, or discover the winged pikmin again.

Overall

If you are on the fence on picking it up I really do not know if I should recommend the game to you if you're waiting for the huge line up of games coming in the fall. Overall its a really good game that the Wii U currently has, If you're new to the series you'll like it.

Pikmin 3 gets a 8.5 out of 10.

Your score doesnt really match your review.

You should do what Conan does and give it 75 sweaty gymsocks out of a total possible walrus.

Hey bro, glad you picked another Wii U up, 2014 has great games coming so I am looking forward to seeing you on the race track !

I agree, Pikmin 3 in person is something incredible, screens usually look great but in person even more so. Don't forget the DLC content available for it too, and inexpensive!

I playedthrough campaign a few months ago and didn't look at the bonusmodes since in most games they're not that fun.

But I was wrong. The two bonusmodes really are wonderful. I dare say much more fun and addicting then the campaign.

I would have judged Pikmin a 7.5 but now I rediscovered it in a way that Miyamoto must have envisioned and I have to say that I was wrong. Now I'd judge it with a 9

Replay value is very high with the other modes, and don't forget DLC. I just played some of the stages in the collect treasure DLC, and the Battle Enemies. Very challenging and fun with lots of replay value because you end up wanting to beat your own score after figuring out a good strategy.
