What is A and B games in your opinion?

To put it simply, it's the games Nintendo makes vs almost everything else 3rd parties, Sony and MS make.

Nintendo has the kids/family/8 to 80 years old oriented games like Mario, MK, Smash, Zelda, Yooshi, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Pokemon. The others have the Halos, Gears of War, Destiny, Call of Duty, Uncharted, Forza, Gran Turismo, Killzone, God of War, Bloodborne, etc., etc.

The problem is that MS and Sony have the majority of their 1st party or exclusive library focused on those kind of games/genres. Nintendo does not.

And when in the past, being Nintendo was OK because there was demand for those games or 3rd parties did make games like those. Now they don't. They changed and the market changed. Only Nintendo didn't. And now you can see the result.

It does hurt Nintendo even more that kids can be just as happy with their smartphones or tablets playing those free or really cheap games. Why will parents bother so much buying a console and games when they can lend them their mobile devices and download a free game?

Its a good point, and plus, Nintendo abandoned any different game, like any racer beyond mario kart, they dont have any FPS, or anything out of their comfort zone.

That has always been Nintendo's problem on the home console market: they just didn't compete after the SNES.
N64 was probably the last console where they actually tried getting games that people liked and helped them a lot in the US: Nintendo Sports titles (even became a brand), Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, San Francisco Rush, Turok. Yet, they forgot about Europe and Japan tastes, basically.

I like Iwata, i really do, i think he's the man for the job, but at the same time it's mindblowing how blind - or willingly blind - Nintendo can be.
During the Wii days they saw that despite its success, they lacked the big titles except for CoD. No AC, no Dead Space, no GTA, no nothing. And that is something that you know it's going to be absent of your library for at least 2 years (minimum time to develop those games).

What did they do? They did absolutely nothing.
They lacked all the games and genres that made PS and XB a success amongst gamers and didn't do anything to try and build a userbase for those franchises to hop onto Nintendo's consoles and now they are hurting, and hurting badly.

I miss Turok. That was a great game. Nintendo is in a hard space right now. They can not afford not to support their own system, like they were doing. But at the same time they can't ignore more adult titles, like Turok. But if they start making those games -like they are starting to with games like Bayanetta - then that will give third parties more reason's not to bring their games over to the Wii U.

I only managed to play Turok 2 and i had a blast, especially the MP with my brothers. Good times!

No, they can't afford to really go after that market nor can they afford to just go with the Nintendo way of doing things like they are doing with Splatoon.
Splatoon is a good step but it's far from enough. They need a more "mature" 3rd person shooter to complement Splatoon and i don't think The Devil's Third is that game.

Actually, if Nintendo can make 3rd party like games successful on their consoles, with exclusives, then 3d parties will know that there is a market for their games on Nintendo's consoles.
Why do you think Activision and Disney keep bringing Skylanders and Disney Infinity? Because the market is there.

That's why i think Nintendo needs to unify their game development. That will allow them to make enough gamer per year and invest in new franchises in genres they don't make but that gamers love.
It's really the only solution for them.

with the latest news, I suspect nintendo abandons IBM and moves to a pc technology... AMD also said they built a new cpu+gpu chip for a new console for 2016...

That means, wii U is the last console with backwards support.  Now lets see if Nintendo will make wii U2 a bit more powerful than current x1 and ps4... If they truly use x86 tech, it will be easily comparable.

If they play safe again and make it near to x1 and ps4 hardware, or identical, I consider it as a stupid move... Because the other 2 consoles will be already established and wii U 2 must appeal to others! And normally the super duper specs make people buy things, more than the games :)

But it will also be clever for nintendo, because when the other 2 consoles will start to straggle, wii U2 will fly even higher... A key point is, Nintendo must give 1080p next gen and 60 fps experience.... That is what all people ask, up to date, ps4 and x1 cant offer that in most of their games.

I also suspect that Metroid open world game, will come with wii U2 (Expanded metroid universe).

I thought the whole point behind buying a console was to skip the hardware mumbo jumbo...

Am I allowed to post how dumb it is to buy a console based on architecture?

If I were to buy it? Well...

What we do know is that Nintendo is going for some kind of unified architecture for their next systems, and by that reasoning they must be similar. The big issue with x86 is that it doesn't scale down that well to portable devices. In addition to Iwata's statement from last year where he mentioned that the next system(s) will "absorb the Wii U architecture adequately" I don't see them going down that road to try to garner 3rd party support that has history has proven, to be shady at best.

If they actually did go to bog standard x86 then you can definitely kiss legacy support goodbye. Everything goes back to zero, no backwards compatibility, drip fed virtual console titles for the third time, digital content stays sandboxed on last gen (PS3/Xbox 360 say hello), more frequent remasters (Zelda U 4k edition!) ect. Imagine that for a second.

No, I would probably not buy.

i would still probably buy it, though it they do go x86/64 They better do things to make the change worthwhile, though that would be assuring ports and working with PC, as well as options for custom servers and similar.  They should be able to emulate wii/GC regardless.

realistically i doubt it.  Also I wouldn't call going full back words compatibility to wiiU a good idea, simply because of the game pad. You will need to bundle a gamepad which adds a 100+ cost to the console, or have people buy a separate pad. You cant use the pad from your old wiiU as it will need to be sold with the console to buy the new one, if your keeping your wiiU, the backwards compatibility is worth about as much as changing the HDMI, assuming you don't have enough ports.

Though we may eventual see the wiiU converted to a handheld, and be compatible as a controller to whatever nintendo's home console is at the time. Though by the time this happens, wiiU may be emulatable.

Imagine if everyone boycotted Super Nintendo Entertainment System just because the CPU was slower and did not have "BLAST PROCESSING" that SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive had a faster CPU tho BP was all marketing. PS3 has a wonky CPU but ended up my fave system last gen. Saturn was all kinds of bad design but was still an amazing system because of the games. I like that Nintendo does everything custom. Much better than off the shelf. If it meant making something like PS4 in terms of off the shelf parts to get 3rd party then great go for it. Thing is these days I don't think it matters what Nintendo makes consoles. Whatever the stigma they have they won't let go of it. PS4 could only be as powerful as Wii U and still be selling like it is. Wii U could be as powerful as PS4 and still be like it is. Don't believe me? Look at Gamecube vs PS2. Wii sold well because of blue ocean. Wii U is red ocean but so is PS4 and XBO. It's mainly stigma that holds Nintendo back and yes to some degree they play a part.

agreed with a lot of what you said. The bolded part was the downfall of the Wii U IMO. when you put together some of Nintendo unwillingness to adopt plus the negative stigma of Wii U it was going to be a sales disaster no matter what. On topic though Wii U has restored my faith (like I knew it would) in Nintendo and their game making capability. QUALITY over everthing so I will bu their next console no matter what just maybe not day 1. I dont think I will ever be a day one buyer again. On topic  though no matter what they choose to go with it needs to be able to run all the most current engines and be developer friendly. hopefully htey can get that right which I think they will. They have learned a lot from the Wii U failures I know that.

I almost agree I guess have to see how everything ends... but for me that goes to the gamecube. Such an underrated console. so many amazing games. Also they brought it with the hardware.
