Some people wanted to see the Wii U, so I took it to a different location, and it connected to the internet, and started doing an update. During the update, someone unplugged the system and moved it to a different plug in, now the remote will not turn the wii console off, literally have to unplug it to get it to turn off. The screen remote asks to type in the card thing again, but it will not show up on the tv screen, any help?

I'm a bit un clear on the problem.
So, the power was unplugged when you were in the middle of the update?
Now you've plugged it back in, it isn't showing up on the screen?

Don't worry, if the light is flashing blue just leave it for a few hours, the Wii U is in autopilot mode, the update is still installing in the background, it just means you can't use it for a bit, everything SHOULD be ok.

Bricked means your system was in the middle of an firmware update and was stopped in the middle to ruin your device (as in it will not function properly from now on). Sort of your system is now a paper weight, a brick to put on it.what does "bricked" mean?

Yeah, everything you said (unplugged during firmware update, no TV image, Gamepad fails to connect) sounds exactly like the other people who've bricked their systems. Or this auto pilot thing that just popped up.
Why did you let them unplug it while it was updating?
Did you really need that exact outlet? I hope it's on autopilot.
I guess Nintendo needs to add that warning not to unplug it. I'm surprised they didn't think to add it. A lot of adults know not to do it but kids might not know about it.
Anyways, keep it on for a few hours to see if it fixes itself like suggested and good luck.

Tough luck considering you had just received it today....
I hope you get things solved, although it was a REALLY bad idea to unplug it while it was updating. It's literally what everyone around here has been saying since the system launched on sunday.

The kids wanted to move it from the projection screen in our youth room to one of the nicer flat screens. Never thought anything of it. I let it sit for about six hours, and it never did anything. On a whim I called Wal-Mart, and they had just gotten 1 black wii u in on the truck five minutes before I called at 11:30 at night. She said she'd hold it for me, so I drove the half hour, and used my walmart.com receipt to exchange for a brand new unit in the store. Yeah, I'm pretty stinking lucky. The new Wii U is just about done updating, about a half hour left is my guess. I'm manning the room to make sure no one comes in and does anything this time.

You really did get lucky and it's a shame that it happened to you. I'm not sure if this was an issue Nintendo was aware of, because I don't know many who willingly disconnect the power of a device while it's performing an update on itself, so I guess it's a lesson learned.
