The OS takes up 4gb, we don't know how big the update is yet.

So the basic Wii U is a 4 gigabyte console and the deluxe is a 28 gigabyte console?

3GB and 25GB. Don't get me started on what happens to the rest, it confuses even the computer novices.

You're gonna want to move those to your computer because the Wii U is going to format them in order for it to work.

Yea they're all backed up already. Guess I'll find out if it formats it though, and if it's still readable by my laptop or not. No big deal if not.

Technically it's 8GB and 32GB when compared to other hard drives and the way they count. But the Wii U's free space will be 3GB and 25GB. Confusing, huh?

Yoshinin - launch retail games will probably be anywhere from 2GB (NSMBU) to 16GB (Tekken TT 2). eShop exclusives will hopefully be less.

just like inchs to mm.
But if you ever look at the box of a new hd it will say 1mb = 1000kb, while normally in the pc world its 1mb = 1028kb.
So you lose some bites and when you times that you get the lose.

Also it depends on which format is used. On some formats you will have a little bit more space while others you will have less.

So the wii u is 8gb and 32gb unformated at 1mb = 1000kb.

I'm old (23), a computer expert, and picked up a little sharpness from gamefaqs.

some good reading on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabyte and http://www.ussscctv....calculator.aspx

in a nut shell all harddrive, flash drive etc.. uses
1megabyte is = to 1000 kilobytes

while the real work and software side sees the hard drives as
1megabyte is = to 1028 kilobytes

so 8gb divided by 1028 will be around 7.8gb.
Then the system update is around 4gb so 7.8-4= 3.8gb
So thats how you get that.

They wont call it a 3gb drive because it is bigger then that its just has something taking up space.
Like your pc if you buy a new hard drive it is blank so if its like a 80gb then your have around 76gb in the real world and then if you add lets say windows xp it will use around 4gb, but if you add win7 it would take up around 7gb.

lol.... I think i probably just confused you more.
bottom line. They are telling you the size of the hard drive before formating it and before system information. It is the way things have been done for yr.
