I have an apple cinema display (the mini displayport kind, not the thunderbolt). I do not want to buy an extra TV just to play the Wii U. Instead I got a HDMI cable to mini displayport (male to male) and then a mini displayport to mini displayport (female to female). So my computer monitor is hooked up to the Wii U, but nothing shows up and the Wii U will not recognize the "TV". Changing the output aspect ratio or type does nothing.

How do I play my Wii U on my Apple Computer monitor?

Maybe your hdmi to displayport adapter doesn't have hdcp.

It looks like you may need a dedicated hardware decoder. This is what I needed to hook up my PS2 to a VGA monitor.

I am not 100% sure however
