I am buying a Wii U and a 3DS, I have had a 3DS but I am getting another. What are some things I need to know before getting a Wii U? Anything I need to know in general about the system, the games, what's the best games out there? What are issues with it? What are really great features?

I also will be recording videos for my new Youtube Channel with a Capture Device.

There's issues like loading times that they're fixing this month, also apparently you have to add someone to your friends list

through miiverse and not through the actual friends list for them to get the notification. Also the no cross-game voice chat is kind of annoying.

Your Nintendo Network ID with all your e-shop games is also system bound, so that can be bad if your system breaks or something.

My personal favorite games on it are Monster Hunter 3 : Ultimate, Sonic & All Stars: Racing Transformed, New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land is a good game to play with friends. The new Need For Speed game that came out last month also looks really good, I'll probably get it soon.

My favorite features on it are Miiverse and Off-Screen play, also just having the second screen in general is great for a lot of games.

Also try to ignore the doom and gloom people, all console launches start out rough

Especially take this advice. There are a bunch of doom and gloom people on here who believe the Wii U is doomed because it's off to a slow start. They'll be eating their words once the Wii U finally takes off when games are released.

Trust me bro, don't let my Profile Image fool you I tell many many people all the time how stupid it is to say a console is doomed like they want it to die.

I remember when I got my 3DS people were saying that crap and It was really annoying, same thing with PS Vita and Wii U now, its really aggravating.

Anyway back on to the subject, I heard that Wii U also supports External Hard Drives and I spotted a pretty 1TB HDD that I want to get with my Wii U this Summer. So I was wondering could anyone confirm this? I know that 8GB sure isn't enough space for even 1 Full HD game like Zelda, especially with all the content they cram into those games.

I also wanted to know that If I'm using a Gamepad how long roughly does the battery last? I hate Xbox controllers and their battery/battery life, so my DS3 (Dual Shock 3) usually last me about a week of gameplay.

Um, the gamepad has a pretty short battery life. A ton shorter than the 360's controller. Mine dies in about 4 hours. And yes, the Wii U does support external hard drives. I have a 1TB one connected to mine right now.

Sweet 1TB That's F'ing amazing! I heard that the Pro controller is better than the PS3 & Xbox, personally I hate Xbox controller but I loved the Classic controller. But I heard it is amazing, 80 hours of battery life, awesome comfort, Wireless, Rumble, Lightweight, Durable, and Looks great. I am gonna grab one of those...

Yeah, the pro controller itself lasts so incredibly long. I bought mine since the Wii U launched back in November and only had to charge it like 3 times! I do prefer the 360 controller because it is the most comfortable to me, but this one is close.

The funniest thing is that it's not even off to a slow start, it's selling faster than the 360 and PS3 were in the same period (don't even bother comparing it to the original wii though :) )

My power went out halfway through the update, and guess what! IT WAS FINE. lol.

The Wii U is selling fine for a start of a launch, some people just wanted to wait a bit.

to be fair and objective to the whole doom and gloom statements. I dont think all of us feel that way. i never once said Wii U was doomed to fail. but im not going to turn my head to the fact that Major 3rd party companies are treating it like it doesnt even exist. giving it the same treatment (so far) that the Wii received like the redheaded step child of console gaming. grasshopper the developers behind the No more hero games on Wii recently was asked what they thought about the next gen console and what they liked about them. their answer for the Wii U was i like it because its nintendo THATS IT!... then they go on to praise ps4 for its tech specs, online, controller etc. this was a major supporter of the Wii. I dont know man something just isnt right... what the hell did nintendo do to piss so many developers and publishers off?

No one has talked about the automatic power off. basically if you leave your console on for 1 hour without touching the gamepad or console, it automatically switches off, meaning if you didn't save your game, you're screwed. to stop this go to the setting and disable it.

Everyone seems to have covered the concerns. Another thing to mention is that right now Nintendo is running an eshop promotion for a select few virtual console games. Right now Punch Out for the NES is .30 cents. I'd also like to add Runner 2 as a game to pick up, now that the patch is out it's super fun to play. I hope you like your new Wii U!

Is what? Does it have to be a certain type? I'm getting a External HardDrive that is USB 3.0 compatible I don't know if it uses power.

I do not understand this..because a HDD uses power from the USB port, so why would it need to be plugged in twice?

I can't exactly explain it, Google it, But a USB Port doesn't Completely power it. And a powered one You plug it in for Power, and Use the USB To let the console get the MB GB or TB
