Is it only possible to get one kind of fruit in your game?  I've found that all of the fruit trees in my town produce pears.  Today the people at the shop are offering a special price for cherries, though.

The best way to get different kinds of fruits is by visiting other people's towns or going to the Island. Other than that, Villagers may sometimes give you other fruits. When you do happen to get different fruits, plant them so that you can have different fruit trees in your town.

and Mango trees

 

The only fruit I'm missing is the Persimmons fruit, so if anyone has that particular  fruit please let me know.

There's also a small chance to get fruits if you send a gift to another villager. He might reply to you with a fruit attached to his letter.

My town produces Cherry and I was given three apples from Isabelle after her advice about how spades work.
