I was wondering if anyone else thinks that Nintendo would end up imposing DRM on their console like Micro$oft and possibly $ony if they release a console next generation.

Considering the lack of 3rd party support and the implication that Western 3rd party devs support DRM (and SOPA), which possibly causes Nintendo to lose said support since Nintendo isn't using DRM at the moment do any of you feel that Nintendo might jump the bandwagon in desperation in the near future?

I certainly hope not but what do you think?

I don't think they could with what they have out now just due to tech limitations right? Unless they could patch it? In any case I think Nintendo actually has a really brilliant idea about how to handle this but they need to tweak it a bit and then market it better. Club Nintendo. Reward people for buying new games rather than trying (and failing. everything gets hacked eventually.) to punish people for taking other routes. I just don't think enough people are using club nintendo. The incentive might not be quite high enough right now, and there might be to much of a work around. (used games often still have unused codes inside them. Again this is often because not many people know and understand the program. Poor marketing. I didn't know what it really was till today!)

Nintendo has already announced their solution to the 'used games problem'

And I quote: 'If you dont want  customers selling your games, make better games'.

words of wisdom indeed and a good ethic overall, unfortunately most western game devs don't see things that way.  I mean they treat used games sales as robbery.  I don't get it, the reason why used games even exist at all is because someone already paid full price for it and either didn't like it and returned it or they were short on cash and had to sell it later on, so i don't get what problems game devs have with used games. I mean, the previous owner already paid full price for it and the devs made a profit off it already.

I doubt Sony would after what they said at E3. I think they were only considering it but thought it would be too risky at the last minute. Nintendo already knows it would be foolish to do.

Nintendo have been using DRM since the Wii.

Everything you have bought since then is locked to your console, but is transferable to a new console.

Nollog what are you talking about? Aside from the Wii to Wii U transfer utility (or sending the console to Nintendo) it's impossible to transfer your licenses to another console. And Disk games are not under DRM (except that the console has to be hacked to run unofficial copies) so you can give those to a friend no questions asked.

yes that is not a drm thing... its a greedy method to earn more bucks.. lol They have to change it because its bad. Since all physical copies dont have any drm and the internet is not mandatory, also free.. the console is drm-free

Yup, that's a great answer IMO. But I think they're actually answering to M$ there, not actually teasing a plan for the future.

That's one awesome thing about Nintendo, from the looks of it they 100% don't swing that way.

Microsoft just came out with this today, but IMO its a little too late...

"According to Mattrick’s post, the Xbox One will only require an Internet connection for the system’s initial one-time set up. So no more 24-hour connection requirement."

"There will also be no limitations to trading, lending, and reselling disc-based games. Any Xbox One game will be playable on any Xbox One console."
