Deutsch LA, the creative agency on PlayStation in the U.S for the last five years, has joined Nintendo after being dropped by Sony for Bartle Bogle Hegarty in February. The creative agency will work on e-commerce efforts and create traditional ads for some of Nintendo’s high-profile games and will lead also lead the digital and social media marketing side of things. Nintendo previously considered five agencies before selecting Deutsch...

Nintendo seems to be stepping up in the advertising department.

Hopefully.

I still think at least part of this mess of a launch was planned that way so that Nintendo can catch Microsoft and Sony unprepared.

We shouldn`t expect a change seeing as their main focus is on digital/social marketing. And although they can do some traditional advertising, it´s not really their focus.

TV adverts don't pull like they use to. It's expensive and over priced for the results received from it. When the last gen began (wii/360/ps3) smartphones were just taking shape and not in the hands of masses of people so TV and print advertising was still at its peak.

Today, social and online advertising trumps any other form. This sort of advertising can be more specialized in who it reaches, where it reaches, and when it reaches which gives much more flexibility then traditional TV stuff. I am not saying you won't see TV commercials and ads, especially around holidays and for big releases, but we shouldn't expect much more.

I've seen a ton of Nintendo adwords campaigns, banners, and commercial videos streaming all over the web. Not many people know that this form of advertising can be catered so much that you can choose whether you want males or females to see it, age ranges, geo locations etc. Much better bang for your buck.

New Super Mario Bros. 2
