"They spent a long time looking and looking," says Reiche. "They were just like 'we have never seen anything like this before.' I've always wondered about the full meaning of that comment [laughs]." Although there was a limited co-marketing deal, Nintendo did not want to make a full commitment to Skylanders. "We have no idea why," says Reiche. "Clearly, they have got properties well suited to this world. Why it is that they didn't rush in here will probably haunt them for the rest of their days."

A Nintendo-exclusive would have changed the shape of the project considerably, as well as adding the complexity of a business partner with a reputation for desiring granular control. It was a disappointment, at the time. Now, it looks like a fortunate escape.

Reiche is still surprised that the entertainment giant which reacted most quickly was Disney, which launched Disney Infinity in 2013 and is looking to expand the franchise. "Nintendo could have kicked Disney's ass," says Reiche. "If I was running Nintendo I would have jumped on this."

Meh. In 2011 the idea of forcing people to buy hundreds of rainbowty toys to play a rainbowty game sounded like a rainbowty idea. Also whoever pitched the idea them could have also done a bad job. If they knew then what people know now of course they would have jumped on it. Rumble U did so well lol. It's a crap series exploiting kids who don't know any better and like Happy Meals toys x10,000 forcing parents to open wallets for poo on a stick. 20/20 is always hindsight.

Hmm, why did they want skylanders to be Nintendo exclusive anyway, wouldn't it have been better for them to have it across all platforms in the first place?

But eh, it's not a wasted opportunity anyway, I doute it would have moved consoles.

It sounds bad, but depends on what was actually shown to Nintendo: was the core idea behind the game or how it would actually play out (with the need to pay for dolls to open up the full game)?

It would be nice to ony day hear Nintendo out.

Skylanders sells best on Nintendo platforms anyway, I don't see it being a loss.

If she means rainbowty NFC crap, then they already confirmed they have something in line with that coming, and also have licensed that rainbowty pokemon nfc pile of crap.

This is the problem with Nintendo, they're just poor at making sound business decisions and it's hurting them big time.

Yes. So much so they are super rich and could be losing hundreds of millions for 40 years before going broke. meanwhile Sony lost 17000 jobs in 2 years closing studio after studio and selling building after building and shutting down big divisions. Yet somehow to everyone they are hunky dory and fine.

What has Sony got to do with Nintendo's refusal to team up with Activision in order to make Skylanders a Nintendo exclusive?

What has Sony got to do with Nintendo's refusal to team up with Activision in order to make Skylanders a Nintendo exclusive?

It has to do with your statement in saying that "Nintendo is hurting big time" whenever they're probably the most well-off out of the big 3. Nintendo has something like $10,000,000,000 in the bank (enough to make a $257,000,000 loss each year until 2052, which I don't see happening considering Pokemon and Animal Crossing exist) and is hiring more people to work at Retro Studios, making new R&D buildings, etc.

Meanwhile, Sony's gaming division has yet to make an overall profit, firing large amounts of workers from their studios or just closing down the studios entirely.

I also don't see how Nintendo is "hurting big time" from this considering the games are sold on all Nintendo systems, and I'm fairly certain that Spyro's Adventure and Giants sold the most on Nintendo platforms anyway.

If this had been a wii u/3ds exclusive it would have failed because people would have just said its more kiddy crap from Nintendo and when they didn't buy the wii version Nintendo would have canned it and Activision would have just figured it was a bad idea to begin with...

Idk how i feel about this one.

to me the game sucks and its all crap.

Also its micro transactions. just in the form of a toy. And i truly hate those.

So i might not had taken on this either.

But at the same time nintendo needs more. They need something that will get gamers moving to them.
