Wind Waker HD is a big game, had about only 2 GB.

Nintendo are masters of compression without risking too much on visuals and audio. I have no idea how they do it, they must have an amazing algorithm.

It's not really what Nintendo does but more what other developers don't care to do and that's optimize and compress. Seems now only Nintendo does it when PS4/XBO games have 50GB installs when they don't have to be

some of its from compression, some of it may also be from not not using a unique asset on every surface in your game, and other expensive small details.

To think that Nintendo is better ready for the download Era than Sony or Microsoft. Years of sticking to low-capacity storage is now paying off.
To be fair Nintendo was online long before Sony and MS made consoles. Famicom could be online as they had a modem for it never released but it was possible and then SNES had DLC with Satilview BS Zelda and other titles. Plus there was Xband which developers supported and you could go online with games like Street Fighter II was also for Genesis. N64 DD had DLC for Mario Paint DD. Just for whatever reason they were never agressive with online until DS.

Well in something like Wind Waker, (and Splatoon), I'm guessing their main tool is to reuse the hell out of textures. In Wind Waker that's quite clear.

Yeah this game looks ideal for DLC. Seems quite likely given how much Nintendo have completely hijacked that bandwagon.
