Terraria has finally been confirmed for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS by publisher 505 Games, but there have been a lot of unanswered questions about how the game will work on both platforms in order to utilize the dual screens. The game will utilize dual screens as much as possible for both versions, and for the Wii U versions, local multiplayer will allow one player to use the GamePad to play, while the other uses the TV.
Deanzor from 505 Games also confirms that the game will launch with all of patch 1.2 content ready and that the team working on both versions of the game will have 1.3 content ready soon after launch if it doesn’t make it into the final release version. Future updates will be available for both versions as well, so you don’t have to worry about being left out. Here’s a full list of what’s discussed on the official Terraria forums about these versions.
- Wii U version will have Miiverse support
- No voice chat on the Wii U
- Using the touchpad to build and dig won’t be the only control scheme
- Game will launch with 1.2 content, but 1.3 content is being worked on
- Multiplayer mode lets two people play on the same console using the TV/GamePad
- Engine Software is the team working on the Wii U version of the game
- Plumber and Hero outfits could return to “original” coloring if Nintendo approves
- Post-release updates are being planned and worked on
