I have recently been thinking about things that developers could do to take advantage of the capabilities of the Wii U gamepad, more specifically, with online. Here's a few.

1: I used to play a lot of Call of Duty, and in the games you would get thrown into lobbies while you wait for the game to start. You could change up your weapon classes, check stats, change personal options, etc. This could all be done on the gamepad instead which would be rather nice. But also the bottom screen could give you game details, the map, possibly a layout of the map to scroll through, your stats on the map, heatmaps (maps that show location in which you kill/get killed), objective locations, objective description, etc..

2: Super Smash Bros. is a party fighter, and when playing online with the next installment for Wii U I want it to feel like a party online. Custom game modes, voice chat, online tournaments. Give it the feel of a party and also give it competitive feel.

3: A few people here on the forums and myself are hopeful for a Battlefield 3 on Wii U, the uses of the gamepad would rock. Whenever you get killed in Battlefield you get a 5 second killcam that is followed by a menu, this could be changed to have the gamepad display the menu while the top shows the killcam or the other way around. Also, when in game items like the SOFLAM, MAV, and EOD Bot are activated, they change your from the TV to the bottom screen and then you can change between your character and the alternate piece of equipment. Another would be having a map on the bottom screen wut on the sides of that screen would be an option to change your equipment with the bottom screen (i.e. switching from your primary to a RPG)

4: Mario Kart for Wii U should keep the idea of communities and also have some sort of course creation, bulding blocks for levels could be done in the style of block fort from Mario Kart 64.

These are some of the ideas I have come up with, tell me yours and what you think of mine.

I like the ideas. I like the SSB, and Mario Kart ones especially (probably because I actually play those games). I love the branching paths of directions developers will be able to go to make multi-player feel more like I am interacting with a human somewhere else in the world instead of playing against really good AI.

Be wary, the suck is coming.

I like your ideas. Online multiplayer could go far. It'd be cool to video chat with the Wii U gamepad while playing the game on T.V.(for any game)

I was thinking that COD could have a weapon that can be controlled like the bomchus on Zelda phantom hourglass (were you draw a route to take on the mini map (which would be on the game pad)) and then the gamepad shows it in first person on the mini map (so you know when to detonate it)

I was thinking that if a game like eternal darkness came out then in an local multiplayer mode the person with the gamepad can make scary stuff happen which makes the person in game go crazy and see more scary stuff.

Just a bit of a strange Idea but in the mario strikers series the chain chomp comes down and practically kills everything in its path, this could be seen in first person on the gamepad.

So an item similar to the RC car except not controlled manually, that would be cool.

I like your idea but I don't think Activision would put all the cool stuff on the Gamepad incase some Fanboys get the Wii U and didn't want to use the Gamepad and use the Pro instead.
But great idea though.

Then they will just use the Pro, I think the majority of these ideas should always just be an option so people can do whatever.

I really like the Smash Bros. Idea. Bottom screen could be for the lobby itself while the top is that room with the sandbag while you wait.

perhaps you should illustrate your ideas and post them here:

For others to drool over :)

For games like Dragon Quest X they could have a map that shows where your friends are, also their health and what their doing.

Excellent ideas Sol. Im sure nintendo and their first and second party studios will make great use of the screen, but im not sure for third parties. Of course we will most likely see some nice stuff like choosing our plays and substitutions on the fly in sports games like madden without your opponent seeing it, but i hope they can also step up and make some great experiences with it.
