You might want to back up the data on the SD card first as it'd only take 10 minutes anyway.
You should be able to move data between an sd card and the wii, but I'd like someone to confirm that given the Wii is actually being read from the SD card in the first place, which if you think about it might be a problem for inserting a second SD card given the console has just one slot.

If some of your save files were on an SD card when you transferred, would they still work if moved to the Wii system memory? Would it still be possible to transfer to Wii U?

If you had some games on your sd card on your wii, it will stay on the sd card, but not be playable on the wii u.
i had a lot of games on my sd card, but non of them got deleted, and were not playable on the wii u.
it would be best to delete them and re download them on your sd card.
