Has Anyone Here Decided to Use an SD Card+USB Reader as External Storage ?

11 June 2015 - 06:39 AM

I just recently started a topic, asking for help with my external hard drive which has been stopping me from transferring files over 1GB from the system memory.
Here: http://thewiiu.com/t...dd/#entry314187

As of  this writing, I'm transferring the data from the external HDD to an SD Card via a USB 2.0 Card Reader. I've done this before in the past and everything worked beautifully from the SD Card, even full retail games. Now, here's what I'm wondering: has anyone decided to use this method instead of the traditional external HDD? I'm asking because, I don't want to buy another external HDD when the one I have works just fine on my PC and original Wii. I'd rather use my funds to pick up Splatoon.  :P

I know from jumpstreet Nintendo said the best option would be to go ahead and use HDDs, however, after reading around I've seen that a lot of people have gone against their word and things have worked out just fine for them. Now, they warned against using USB thumbdrives, but not SD Cards. The 3DS uses SD Cards, as does many phones and tablets that have expandable storage, and of course digital cameras. So I'm wondering; would it be okay to use the SD Card+USB Reader as a long-term alternative? Should I be worried about it failing? Like I said—at this point it's working better than my external HDD, which is strange considering the HDD has its own power source...

Wii U Refuses to Copy Certain Data Files to my External HDD

11 June 2015 - 03:56 AM

Good day people.

I'm having a very annoying issue with my Wii U and my external HDD. A friend of mine gave me his code for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze a while ago. I used it, and only then did I find out that it's a whopping 10GB. I already had The Wonderful 101 installed on the system memory, which is another 10GB. I own the Deluxe Set, so between those games, my indie titles and savedata—it was just too much for the limited memory.

So I sacrificed HDD I was using, and hooked it up to the U. Most things moved over with ease, but anything above 1GB has issues being moved.  I lost my Smash data a few months ago because of this problem. Every time I try to copy or move big files over to the HDD, after about 2-3 minutes, a message would pop up saying that "there was an error copying the data. Only disconnect your external hard drive when the console is powered off."

I already disabled the hard drive sleep mode function, so the disk isn't going idle. I'm stumped at this point.
