It is a European PAL console, is there any cables that give better picture quality than the standard one it comes with?

Okay... 1. Yes, although they may be hard to find now, xbox did have component cables, which enabled all games at least 480p, and a handful of simpler looking games 720 or even 1080.
2. Call of Cthulhu dark corners of the earth. Bethseda published it, good luck finding it, but man, it was epic. Best lovecraftian mythos game ever. Dont let J. Edgar Hoover bust your balls.
Man single player campaigns were so awesome back then.

Hmmm I looked for the component you suggested but I think only NTSC consoles supported 720p.
Even 480p would be good if PAL can display it, don't think the S Video cable supports that though.

Running your Xbox through a component cable makes it look a lot better, its how I had mine hooked up back in the day, check eBay see if anyone got one on there, well worth it. As for games it depends what sort you like but ones I enjoyed were KOTOR 1&2 , FABLE, JADE EMPIRE, PANZA DRAGOON ORTA, BLINX THE TIME SWEEPER( I think that was what it was called, most people didn't seem to rate it back in the day, but I liked it.).
Oh yea Blinx is cool, I played the demo but never got round to buying the full game. Some very nice character models in that.
Before I buy the component are you 100% sure I will get at least 480p on a PAL?

Ordered the cheapo component from ebay and Half Life 2. Played Orange Box on 360 but didn't complete HL 2.
Apart from say Half Life 2 what game really pushed the old Xbox to it's limits? I remember back in the day being impressed with Splinter Cell's lighting and the bump mapping the console could do.
I've always wanted to what is more powerful between Xbox 1 and original Wii.

If I recall correctly only the US Xbox supported component output. The EU/UK ones didn't.

I bought this and have yet to receive it. It says resolutions between 480p - 720p and is compatible for all regions? Reckon it will work?

Chronicles of Riddick is the best looking xbox1 game. Hands down.Ordered the cheapo component from ebay and Half Life 2. Played Orange Box on 360 but didn't complete HL 2.

People might say conkers bad fur day, but the game looks like a complete terd today, and back then. It had a decent main character model, and that was it.
Wii is a lot more powerful than xbox, although it didnt have hardware supported programmable shaders, and instead mantained the same obsolete fixed functions as the cube and its tev.
the tev was a texture/shader tree recirculation engine. A super cheap super fast multipass renderer. You could mix and match textures and effects to get desired results, up to eight stages on cube, and 16 on wii. You could reasonably mimic most any programmable shader effect with this, but it never looked as good, it always had this noticable.. TEVified look.
If you wanted bump mapping/shaders other than the fixed emboss, embm, or what have you that was provided, you had to go low level and write your own shaders and run them through software. Were talking like, assembler low level.... HVS did this for their conduit games, but those were c bracket productions at most generous. Tecmo did this for the fantastic bump mapping and shaderwork in other m.
Galaxy used the provided emboss and embm and did extensive 16 stage mixing.
You wont find any games that look like riddick on wii because of the extensive use of dot3 normal mapping and unified lighting and shading. But you will notice riddick is, as a slightly jelly bungie put it 'just two guys and a wall'.
Xenoblade is impossible on xbox. You wont find anything remotely comparable.

Possibly. I don't remember specifically what the deal was. I live in the UK but had a US Xbox as I had brought it back when I moved back to the UK from the US. I could be mistaken but I thought only the US Xbox supported component output primarily because component wasn't as prominent over here in the UK/EU at that time. I connected mine to a VGA CRT monitor back then using a component to VGA switch box. I don't think the UK Xbox games supported component either. I could be mistaken though. The best thing to do is try it when you get the cable.
