I'll probably get these games, though I'll probably buy/play them very far between each other since they're practically the same game with minor edits ( similar to Pokemon) right?

No, the games are very different. The two games have different stories. It would be like playing Pokemon Platinum and Pokemon Heart Gold. They can communicate but are otherwise different.
