We should get points whenever we post a message on a thread. We could use the points to earn rankings, prizes, and other special awards.

This idea would just encourage spam posts.
There is already the user badges for certain post milestones, I think that is enough.
Not to mention that many people here are already against a point system or system that promotes elitism.
Besides, where would you get these special prizes? It's not like the mods or admins are going to make them.

But the nearest bestbuy to me is 4 hours by plane

Nollog is saying the post count is essentially the point system. The more posts you get, ("points"), your rank will change. This is your "reward".
That said, I don't think it's necessary to have a "points" system. We already have it (in a different form) with "likes" and the posts.
You're willing to buy $10 Best Buy gift cards? On a daily or weekly basis? If you're willing to do so, I'll happily give you my address.

This wouldn't be good. We get member titles as a reward anyway. That's all you really need. If it's something that costs money, who will pay for it?

I don't know if that is even possible with system or if feldo would allow such a thing. If you're willing to put out $10+ a week for a single poster, a better cause would likely be for the server costs...
