For me the biggest benefit of having a beard is not looking like a 16 year old girl...

Awesome. My beard makes me look like a cross between a wookie and grizzly Adams.

You are truly a god among men then

One con of having a beard is it can make your face unbeardably itchy.

I never really felt itchy once I grew it all out, now it just feels like Bruce Lee-Lumberjack-Unicorns are hugging my face, keeping it protected and warm

I don't really see the benefits except for looking cooler, if you can actually pull off a beard.

As of right now, I do look old enough, but I have a crappy trimmer and shaver, so it's either messy, a close shave, or nothing.  I'd try out a beard if I actually had the effort of keeping it well maintained (or a trimmer that actually worked and I don't have to charge a day prior to using).

It makes some people appear more distinguished or aged, but beyond that it is the biggest irritant of all time (Kanye tell em).  They snag, they chafe, they hold oil in the skin.  I had a beard for four months that I just had to shave off because it became too much hassle, and i swore everytime it snagged in my helmet strap or irritated my face while riding my motorcycle to work.  Beards really do suck.  I'll stick to shadow or stubble or just keep it clean.  Keep in mind there is a reason military branches want clean shaven faces.

I think the key to that is not washing too often, but washing often enough.

It's a precarious balance.

The main benefit in my opinion is having a beard in the winter, as soon as I shaved mine off in February everything suddenly seemed a lot colder...

That and having a beard makes you look older, good for not having any ID when you're 19 (I have never been ID'd when with beard).

They also make for a good distraction technique for when you are bored.

(You can stroke your beard!)
