Emulation (how virtual console works) requires at least 3 times the CPU power of the system you're emulating.

Maybe next time.

GameCube games are still up in the air ( Analog triggers hurt the possibility of GameCube VC games), but GBA games are coming to the Wii U Virtual Console ( why they didn't announce it for 3DS first, I don't even know). Since the Wii U is getting GBA games, we'll probably get GBA games on the 3DS sooner or later.

They announced it in the February Nintendo Direct.

How many games would be ruined if they didn't have analog triggers? The only ones I can think of are racing games.

I have some GBA games on my 3DS (I'm part of the ambassador program). Would love to see GBA games get released on the eshop for both 3DS and Wii-U. AS for gamecube games... PLEASE NINTENDO! :P Gamecube has a huge selection of games, and would love to see them get released on Wii-U!

and even so, racing games play good without analogs

Very messed up at the moment, we got GBC games on 3DS, GBA games on Wii U, and we havn't even heard about GameCube games yet. It should have been GBC and GBA games on 3DS, N64 and GameCube games on Wii U. But I'm not complaining, however messed up it may be at least we are getting backwards compatibility in a fashion, unlike other companies that come to mind.

I don't think Gamecube games will ever be on the virtual console, for the reasons Nollog said (Although 3X is just wishful thinking, some Gamecube games have trouble being emulated on the weakest quad cores)

I DO expect to see some "HD Remakes" ala Xbox Arcade, though.

Emulation (how virtual console works) requires at least 3 times the CPU power of the system you're emulating.
Maybe next time.

Then the Wii U should be able to emulate GCN without batting an eyelash.

I think GC games will be on VC in a year or two, but some may depend if they're getting a HD remake in the future or not :P

I reckon the Wii U would be 3 times the GC's power, don't you?

The rule of thumb is actually 10 times the power, my mistake.

I don't understand, surely the Wii U could easily handle GC games? Why does emulation require so much more power?

3dude will explain with all his 9001 words.

My explanation is that different systems are made very differently, requiring complexity to try and get the more powerful system down to the level of the older system.

Ahha, could there be a possibility that Nintendo saw this coming and adapted the console to easily emulate GC games, since the CPU shares a similar ancestry to the GC? Plus isn't the Wii U over 10x more powerful than the GC? But then again that's because of the GPU rather than the CPU. Ah well...I hope Nintendo manage it :)
