The Wii U has had a rough couple of months where games originally announced for the launch period that ended March 31st have been pushed back out of reach, leaving something of a drought for many consumers. However, the console seems to be picking up in speed, as this week the Wii U finally outsold the PS3 in Japan.

So what’s the cause of the jump in sales? Well, Dragon Quest X and Game & Wario are finally available in the country, which probably spurred numerous people to go out and get a system in order to play those games. Remember, Dragon Quest X is an MMORPG with a subscription fee, so those who purchased the system for that game will be using it for quite some time. Perhaps if sales for the game are good enough, we could see a localized version in the rest of the world.

All it needs are games! Doom and Gloom people will be praising the system later on when games are released.

Not sure if true, but I read that DQX was only released for 2 days or so when these numbers came out. Hopefully, we'll see an even larger spike in Wii U sales next week.

Perhaps, It was for the week of 25-31 March.  Not sure exactly when it released, this is a copy paste from another news source.

Wii U staring to outsell PS3 in Japan while both obliterate 360 lol.

Surprised Monster Hunter didn't have a huge impact in Japan when released on Wii U.

Just checked up on the release date and it was the 30th. So, yeah, I expect(and hope) to see greater numbers next week for Wii U. Hopefully, this game will grow some legs and bring in some good sales over time. I mean, it's DQ in JAPAN for goodness sake! :P

that's cause it was released on wii u launch there and they already had it for 3ds for a year, and they had monster hunter portable 3rd so over there mh3 is kinda getting beat to death

Now if only there was a game here in America that made the Wii U sell like Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest normally do in Japan...

Lego City has been selling pretty well, and was number 4 in sales last week I believe.

Which is quite an amazing feat considering the relatively small install base.

Wii U sales have doubled or more all over the world, things are looking up.

I didn`t know what to think about DQ X. The game was going to sell to the same audience as the Wii audience/version... If it reaches 100K i think it`s a good thing.

Expected more from Game & Wario. The Wii game, that launched alongside Wii, did almost 3 times better. Hope sales don`t fall too rapidly.

Wii U`s HW numbers are a good sign that people want the console given that DQ X is just basically a port and GW sales aren`t really that high. That being: a good spike in sales when there wasn`t much incentive on the software side.

Dragon Quest X would make me buy a wii u if I didn't have already but still no idea when its coming to Europe.

Maybe they will simultanously release the wii and wii u versions together to make more of an impact.

I'm sure Dragon Quest had something to do with it but there is no way a game like Game & Wario would spike hardware sales.

If the Wii Us sales are going up after these titles released, then how mow much would they spike if a new SSB game released?
