We know there have been a lot of people questioning the power of the Wii U. we still dont know what this console will be able to achieve in the long term graphics wise. there are some on this forums that believe "initially" there will be nothing the ps4 can do the Wii U couldnt do.i would like to pose a question to the faithful here. we know(as this gen is wrapping up) the shortcomings of games on ps360... texture pop ins, screen tearing, unstable frame rates, sub native resolutions, and lack of anti aliasing/tessellation . lets say in the long run we see games on Wii U with a noticeable bump in graphical quality over ps360(not major just noticeable) NATIVE 720p LOCKED 60fps, no screen tearing, no texture pop ins, with anti aliasing and tesselation... would that be enough for you? in comparision to ps4 and 720 getting Native 1080p maybe 60fps with major in game graphics shown better than ps360(if this is the case)? i know people on many sites have been scratching their heads and crunching numbers trying to figure out what this console is capable of. I always thought if it could run the Zelda HD demo or Unreal 3.9 demo (even though mark rein has denied that demo was of any significance) type graphics maxed out i would be fine with what it can accomplish. what are your guys thoughts?

I believe it will have great games, with great graphics. Just look at the X trailer, and the pikmin trailer, and as you mentioned the Zelda U tech Demo. Thes look far better than anything this generation.

Tech demos do tend do be better than most games we see in the end but theres no reason to give up hope, i will always buy Nintendo consoles for the amazing first party titles but i do hope they can receive a decent set of third party titles.

I just hope that developers won't leave Nintendo in the dark as the release of the PS4 and 720 draws near.

Yes i'm very happy with the level of graphics we are seeing now let alone when they master the tech! the fact that so much of this console is custom keeps the 'wonder' element going!

i don't care about graphics, the Wii U offers a new way to play games... am satisfied :P

I hate the way people keep complaining about the graphics of the Wii U, in the past 17 or so year when has ANYONE gone "ooh I should get that nintendo console for its graphics" NO ONE, so why is it such a giant deal now??? We go to Nintendo for their games. So STAP!

I have to disagree with you on that one... a lot of gamecube owners brought it because of the graphics it displayed. hell one of the best looking titles that gen was built from the ground up on gamecube (resident evil 4).

I'm satisfied with current gen graphics, anything extra is a bonus, but I guess when 4k TVs come cheap enough it'll make 720p and 1080 look like crap

I know people are gonna hate this but I think Pro controller should have first dibs before the UPad. The reason why is that everyone are acustom with it and somethimes touch ain't don't work right. One example Super Mario Bros WiiU.

Uh...yeah, I'll be fine, thanks. Believe me, graphics are usually the last thing I think about when buying a game. If the game is good and I'm on okay terms with the content in said game, then I'll buy it.

I didn't really care about the Wii's graphics, so I don't think I would with the Wii U. A good game makes you forget about graphics!

A lot of wii u graphics will be cartoon graphics anyway which are less difficult to pull off because of repeated textures and not having to do realistic weather effects etc.

Zelda windwaker still looks amazing today. Even if the wii u only performs to the same level as 360 and PS3 that is still a huge, huge jump from wii performance which was basically little more than a gamecube going 50% faster. The gamecube gpu was 8 gflops, the wii 12 glfops and the expected performance of the wii u gpu is about 352gflops about a 50% increase over 360 and a better feature set too. The later gpu architecture also requires less cpu resources as well. In gpu terms that's 30x performance over the wii gpu in gflops. Where as the cpu is is a more modest 6-10x increase over wii. High speed video memory has gone up over 10x in capacity and memory available for games has gone up from 24meg to 1GB (40x). Wii u vs PS3/360 is difficult to judge as such different designs and they are superior to wii u in some areas but the jump wii to wii u is absolutely massive. There are brilliant times ahead with regard what Nintendo can achieve with wii u.

I'm personally disappointed that the wii u didn't clearly go ahead of ps3 and 360 in all areas though. I feel a better cpu even if it meant sacrificing wii compatibility would have been much better.

I'm very impressed so far. Nintendo land looks amazing. And that's a launch game. Just wait until they figure out how to get the most out of the tech! :o Considering how amazing Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 looked on the Wii, I think we're going to get some great graphics on the Wii U.

I'm 50/50 at this point. I haven't seen anything that screams "next gen" graphically yet. However games like Nintendo Land and Lego City Undercover have fantastic details and the surroundings are detailed.

Game created for Wii U are still using DX9 code, so reagardless if the Wii U's GPU is DX10.1 or DX11, there will be significant improvements from coding in the newer API, and yes I realize the Wii U isnt actually using the DX API but the Open GL equivilent.  As you can see in the above video the performance boost from going to DX10.1 from DX10 was over 20%, it could be quite a bit higher than that over DX9.

So I expect to see some pretty stunning games on Wii U.  Will they be on par with PS4 games?  I doubt it, the 8GB of GDDR5 ram coupled with a pretty decent GPU is going to produce some pretty good results.  Thats not to say the difference will be the Wii vs 360 like last time.  Maybe a Dreamcast compared to Xbox, but not Wii to 360.  There will be total graphics whores that will nit pick every little thing and point out every single improvement that the PS4 makes, but to the avrage eye, the difference will be much more modest.  E3 is just a couple of months away, and that will be a huge opportunity for Nintendo to really show off the system.  They didnt do it last year, and that has raised questions ever since.  Heck, even Baynonetta is likely to impress on a technical level.  There will be some nice looking games at E3 that will close the gap.  Sony showed off one of their best efforts with Killzone Shadowfall, Nintendo hasnt done that yet, Retro is hard at work and I will be shocked if it doesnt blow people away.

What people have to remember is that the way we are going with all of the next gen systems, they are still locked to a max resolution of 1080p,, making an extreme increase in detail worthless from a game development standpoint because there are only so many pixels to work with.  The 3 next gen consoles will take what has already been done on PS3 and 360 and even Wii and do them better, a lot better, but not so much better that people freak out over it like last gen.  Nintendo has a strategy of delivering "good enough" horsepower to allow for the graphical experiences that will still take our breath away, while Sony is going for getting developer support through a more powerful system with lots of resources but in the end it will only do so much.  Games will look marginally better on PS4, but does that make it a better value?  I think the PS4 has the potential to be a great value if they price it right, but not a better value than the Wii U.

So, yes, I'll be satisfied, some things may not look quite as pretty in the future, but it has enough to give us quite a few aha moments with regard to graphical capabilities, hell, it already has, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Very well put.  I think that even Unity titles will put the DX9 equivalent ports we've received so far to shame.  Obviously developers are going to have more room to breath in the PS4 ecoshpere, but it won't produce the results many Sony fans are hoping for.  More powerful, for sure, much more powerful, but when the games are being played, not a big difference.

Even when you look at high quality DX11 games, they arent completely destroying 360/PS3 games.  Take a look at Crysis 3 on PC maxed out and then look at the game on 360.  Yes, the PC version looks quite a bit nice, but its still essentially the same game.  Keeping mind that the 720 is rumored to be somehwere in the middle.  So its likely that the 720 would become the lead platform, making ports to both the PS4 and Wii U fairly easy.  It will come down to the publisher/developer, do they want to devot the resources for a Wii U build or not.  Its surely wont be because its not possible, but slapping PS4 code on the console and expecting it to just work isnt going to happen either.  If they are willing to dedicate a Wii U team like Treyarch did for their Call of Duty titles on Wii, then its no issue at all.  I think Treyarchs Wii team was about 35 people in size, so its a small inventment compared to the 250+ people on the PS3/360 team, but sales expectations are a lot lower as well.  Hopefully gamers support third party titles enough to warranty this investment from publishers.

Honestly, I'm satisfied. The graphics are fine, in my opinion. I honestly don't care as long as a game is fun. It's why I can still enjoy games from the old days. I personally believe graphics enthusiasts should remain playing on a PC, because console gaming is never going to match the quality that you can only get on high end hardware. Really, the only reason people should be playing on consoles is for their exclusives (and any gimmicks, I suppose), because that's all they have going for them.

Honestly, if you buy Nintendo consoles for graphics/power capabilities something is wrong with you. But yes, I am quite satisfied with the graphics, but even if I weren't I'd still buy a Wii U for games like Zelda.
