Ever since its no-show at last year’s E3, Retro Studios has been on Nintendo fans’ minds. What are they working on? When will we get whatever the hell it is? Well, today, UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine reports that the studio behind the Metroid Prime series will be unveiling its next project “in the not too distant future.”

That comes from Nintendo’s Hiro Yamada, a game supervisor currently working on the 3DS port of Donkey Kong Country Returns. But other than that, we don’t really know when that “not too distant future” will be. Of course, in about a month and a half, we’ll be hip-deep in E3. Even though Nintendo announced that it won’t be holding a big press conference, there will still be a presence at E3 with announcements and hands-on opportunities for members of the press. So that seems as good a place/time as any for the new Retro Studios game to get announced, right?

So now that something from Retro is coming soon, it’s speculation time. What do you think it could be? More importantly, what do you want it to be?

I doubt it's anything Donkey Kong related OR Metroid related. They most likely want to surprise us with something different because last year they did announce that they were interested in acquring new IPs.

I've stated in a topic of mine that it wasn't going to be starfox (after much speculation of course) I am willing to bet £100 its a new Metroid game, not Metroid Prime but a new story.

Either make the competitive online FPS that Nintendo is lacking (could be Metroid or new IP), or bring bacl Raven Blade.

I never liked Starfox, so I hope it's not that.
I'm not the greatest fan of Metroid Prime, but if they made a new one with the single player of the gamecube ones mixed with the multiplayer of hunters, that'd be sweeeeeeeeeeet.
I kinda hope it's a new I.P. though, and not a FPS or a 2D platformer either.

I would love to see Raven Blade get back into development, it sounded like a very good concept.

 

Also, Banjo-Kazooie would be impossible because Rare still retains ownership of the franchise.

Can't remember when, but I'm pretty sure it was confirmed to be a current IP, not a new one. StarFox U or Metroid Prime U?

I have a feeling they are going to do a direct right before the XBOX reveal, or directly after.  I doubt it would be the retro project, I think they may be waiting for Sony or MS to insinuate Wii U can't run some of their engines.
