Nvidia and ATI/AMD both make good graphics cards. It really depends.

I could potentially help you, but I hate doing so for free. Because usually what happens is I spend all my time offering suggestions and then the person I offer my opinions to ends up going with different advice.

Get a Geforce 660 Ti for $300. Can play a lot of games well.

Get a Geforce 660 Ti. Amnesia's advice is horrible and you should follow mine instead.

I have a 7870, it was like 100 euro and is pretty decent.

I have a Radeon 7950 with the Catalyst beta drivers, which outperform the 660 Ti. If you have enough I would get the Radeon 7970, I know 7950 is around $300.

Nonsense. The 660 Ti for example is every bit as good as the 7950.

The problem is that, while both brands are good, everyone has a bias to a certain brand. Even me.

I would say Either between the 660 Ti, 680, or the 7970. They are all good and in the $300 to $500 range

but that's not actually true, I'm not biased either but for that price range 7950 is just better, even 7870s outperform 660 ti s when overclocked

if this was 5xx/6xxx gen I would easily recommend nvidia

or if OP wants to crossfire/sli in the future I'd recommend nvidia since they have better drivers for that
