The highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - which is set for release later this year on the 3DS - will run at 60 frames per second, even when the 3D is switched on, according to the game's producer Eiji Aonuma.

In an interview with EDGE, Aonuma explained the high frame rate was "a big deal":

The game runs at 60FPS, while all the 3D games up till now have run at 30FPS. The faster the frame rate, the more stable the 3D effect.

We've already seen how The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past 2 makes good use of the 3D effect - adding great depth to the environment - but Aonuma was quick to point out it isn't essential to the game and there won't be any puzzles that require the feature in order to progress.

Well, there are players who don't like 3D and always keep it switched off, so there's nothing in the game that absolutely requires 3D, like puzzles that can't be solved without it.

My thoughts: This sounds great. How many FPS did the first A Link to the Past run at?

This is great, i never use the 3D feature! Then again i don't believe it would have stopped me anyway, i managed to do Super Mario 3D land 3d puzzle things without the 3d instantly

Doesn't look like the game exactly pushed the 3DS anyway.

Graphic wise no. Processing wise maybe.

It's always good to hear that a game will be running at 60FPS.

How many FPS did the first A Link to the Past run at?

Who knows, probably 30 or maybe less.
