Square Enix has confirmed that it will hold a Final Fantasy event at E3. Titled “The Future of Final Fantasy,” the event will be open to press from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, June 11th -- the day the E3 show floor opens -- and will feature a “special Q&A session” with Final Fantasy brand director Shinji Hashimoto.

Previously, Hashimoto confirmed that a new Final Fantasy game for PlayStation 4 will be announced at E3. The title will use presumably use Square Enix’s next-gen Luminous engine, though no official details have been revealed.

 

We don’t know any platforms for the new Final Fantasy game other than PlayStation 4, but it’s a safe bet that we could find out more at Sony’s E3 2013 press conference on Monday, June 10th at 6:00 p.m. Pacific. Until then, read our road to E3 feature for what we’re anticipating in the reveal.

I agree. I thought one couldn't do much worse than how Final Fantasy is now but I played an iPad game recently from Square Enix that was probably one of the worst games I ever played.

I hope there is something along the lines of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, or just Final Fantasy XV. I want them to just not make Final Fantasy a mobile only franchise, please Square, keep it to the consoles, and handhelds...

I'm hoping for more linear gameplay, more lame plots, and overwhelmingly horrible characters.  X and XIII really left a bad mark on the series

Wow. Someone else who didn't like Final Fantasy X.

 

Honestly, though, Squeenix needs to stop trying to reinvent the series to be more action-oriented. They have a tried-and-true formula, all they really need to do is focus on making really good stories for these games.

In all seriousness, rebrand Versus 13 as Final Fantasy 15 and announce it for PS4, XBONE, and Wii U (once you go multiplatform for console games, you never go back).

ugh, I'm done with square enix. As far as I'm concerned, the only final fantasies that exist are 1,2,4,6,7,9,10 and 12 ^^

The future of final fantasy lives on in titles like Xenoblade and Last Story.
