It's back up now, and it seems like nothing has changed...

Original Post:
Hey a friend just told me that the eshop was "under maintenance."
I didn't believe him, checked, and it said the same thing.

When do you guys think it'll be resolved and for what reason is it under maintenance?

I think it's something for us ambassadors, but it may not be...

P.S. Seems it just happen recently as no one else noticed and I checked the eshop about an hour ago.

Edit: Some people say there was a message or something earlier. Was it in the eshop or a spotpass notification.

Isn't this how the PSN hacking started? *gulp*

I don't think it's hacked been hacked... at least I hope not. (I'm glad that I didn't put any money on my eshop account/thingemajig)

I find it weird that they would put it on maintance it on Thursday. Because today is when the Eshop gets new games.

Long as we didn't put in any credit card info, we should be fine even if it is a hack. I'm not saying it is, I'm just saying it could be. I hope that your original thought of them preparing something for ambassadors turns out to be the true story.

It's not a hack... It's probably exactly what it says on the tin: Maintenance.
It makes perfect sense to do it right before a content update: That way most people will be able to notice the changes quickly. Or so their servers don't get overwhelmed. Either one.

Computer systems sometimes need to have work done on them that requires them to be taken offline. They may be rolling out a major upgrade to their software or hardware, and it may be a bad idea to keep the eShop running during that for a number of reasons, depending on what exactly they're doing.

When I take this forum or one of my other sites down for maintenance, you don't all automatically jump to the conclusion that I've been hacked, do you?

Also, on the note of credit card information, it's safe even if Nintendo do get hacked. This is because Nintendo never, ever stores your credit card info for this very reason (unlike Sony, who offer to store it for the sake of "quick purchases"). Am I the only guy who actually read through the entire Terms of Service and all the legal gobbledegook of the 3DS and the eShop? You guys should be aware of what exactly they do with your information before making any assumptions.

I guess it is over reacting to think that it may be a hack. Guess I'm still just a little rattled with the memory of the PSN hacking still fresh in my mind.

I believe I knew this from just buying points with a credit card on the Wii. When I went back a second time, our information wasn't saved. +1 to Nintendo for using their brains about credit card information.

I called Nintendo and they said it should be on by tomorrow. I hope they include some new features instead of just fixing some bugs.

I don't buy things from the eShop, unless it's free. I too hope that there will be something noticeably new, I doubt it though. There probably just going to fix some bugs. But I don't know for sure though.

I hope it'll be at least something positive -.-

Well my fellow 3DS users, it appears that there were no extraordinary changes in the eShop today, sorry. :( I believe it was some sort of server maintenance. Other users have pointed out that the Wii and DSi shopping services were also down.

I saw 1 new thing... at least I think it's new...

If you go to Settings / Other there is a new part in the "History" section.

It's called "Updates". Was that there before or is that new?

I've noticed that every 3DS game out on our shelves has finally been recorded into the eShop.

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

Like we had some titles, but not every single title. Actually, we don't have every single title, but I noticed after the maintenance there was a few more.
