During the trailer, you see a boxing ring... looks like we'll have another surprise character joining the roster..  :D

I wouldn't take that too seriously.

Notice how the Villager has boxing gloves in one of his moves, which I'm almost entirely certain is a reference to Punch Out! (due to the game being playable in the GCN version).

I believe that the stage is just a SSB series stage, like Battlefield.

Who? The Animal Crossing villager?

Oh. Punch out. Hmm. Well in Brawl Animal Crossing had a stage but no characters were featured in the game so you never know for sure.

Hanenbow stage was in Brawl, yet it was just a reference.

Actually, related to my earlier post, and Punch-Out! fans are not going to like this...

It looks like Sakurai has taken the fact that the original AC on the GCN has NES games as an excuse to give moves to the Villager from retro characters that he decided not to make a full character of - such as the Balloon Fighter.

If the boxing gloves are a reference to Punch-Out! that might hurt a Punch-Out character's chances. I'm not going to say it deconfirms them or anything, but it's looking unlikely. Unless the Villager is also a reference to other games and the boxing gloves are from something else.

I actually thought that the boxing gloves were a reference to Wii Sports Boxing, but I guess Punch-Out!! works too.
