I had the Wii U for about a month and a half now and at this point I am interested in trying out some backwards compatible games.  However I have never owned a Wii and I do not know how the Wii remote work.  I saw a Wii remote for about 40 dollars and the Wii Nunchaku joystick for about 20 dollars.  Now I am wondering, do I need to buy the Wii nunchaku along with the Wii remote to play most Wii games or can I just use the Wii remote without the Wii nunchaku? Because it would seem that I would have to spend close to 60 dollars if I buy both.

well I was thinking of buying Pikmin 2 and/or Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2 for starters.  Do these games need both the remote and nunchaku?

Yes, those are great games to start with, if you want a good game that is played well with a wii mote only get New super mario bros. Wii.

I guess I have to get both the remote and nunchaku for the games I want.

Anyway, thanks for the answers.
