Also, we wouldn't need mods if members could close/lock their threads.

Discussion on the topic is fine, I think discussion should be encouraged.  It's not like an actual issue is going to come from this.

I'm not talking about an issue. I guess only GC does it then. When the question is answered you should lock the topic.

I typically did that, when Feldo was around, and still do for some questions.  If people want to ask why they can't lock their own topics, I'm going to leave it open for that.  I'm not clueless on how things were run before.

I'm not a fan of admins locking suggestion threads unless they give a definitive yes or no answer, and do so clearly.

I think members just randomly locking topics for no reason would get insanly annoying, especially if nothing bad is happening within them. If a member is getting sick of thier own topic they should just turn notifications off and ignore it and let others carry on with thier discussions.

Another forum I have been to actually does allow the original poster to lock their started topics. The power tends to be slightly abused in that a lot of topics get locked by the OP just because they get tired of them. Then we get into the argument of, well if the OP is tired of them, shouldn't they be able to lock them? The real question becomes, who owns the thread, the OP or the community? Answer that and you can easily decide what to do, I guess.

There is no certain reason why users should lock their own topic.
