A family relation of mine wants to make a video game with me, it would be using his idea and I would be making a lot of the game and the game would be on my preferred platform given the circumstances, the Ouya, and he would be helping a little and we would split the money made, if any. I can come up with the money I need for the Ouya, over $100, but I would still need $200 to pay for development costs which to me, we need. The only thing is, I'm pretty sure that asking him to pay for the $200 development costs would end in him flat-out saying "no". So even if I were to come up with the money, I have to ask, should I make my own video game of my own concept and alienate him completely because of this?

It depends on the concept really.... I make full fleged games on paper because well I have no clue how to make games. I think if you have the passion, money and the talent then do it your way but if he has a good idea use it........

 If he's not putting any of the money down.  Wii him.  Do it on your own with your own concept.  Unless you're absolutely convinced his idea is a million dollar idea.

I think if you actually do go through with making the game and he didn't help with putting any money in it then you need to at least give him a small amount of the profits since he did come up with the idea for the game and you used his idea in the game that you made. I believe you can actually get sued for that if he proves that you used it. So you should get that part handled before going through with the project. If not than just make a game, but use your own original ideas.
