Feld0 already said he has a list of people who he things would be good mods and he will contact them when he sees it necessary.Hey, I was just thinking that maybe we could have a thread where we nominate members to be mods, and then we vote on them. I can add a poll when we get to the voting stage.
This thread has just been made kinda unnecessary by a valid reason
But seriously, Feld0 already has plans about this and I don't think I'd be a good idea for us to just "nominate" mods.
P.S. My first sentence was true, read it in some other thread or somewhere...

Not gonna happen. It's just not the way that mods are chosen around here. You can only become a mod by invitation. I'm sorry, but it's only for the best. To choose mod candidates, as I refer to them, I watch over the forums to get an idea of which users contribute the most to the community, are good forum citizens, and abide by the rules. Reporting content that breaks rules helps your chances of being on the list, too, while responding to such content directly lowers them.Hey, I was just thinking that maybe we could have a thread where we nominate members to be mods, and then we vote on them. When the time comes to choose a mod, I will choose a candidate from the list and contact them privately to tell them about the responsibilities of being a mod and inviting them to be one. If they don't accept, that's that and the rest of you will never even know the person was considered for modship. If they agree, I promote them and provide all the assistance they need to do their job.
The reason no one has seen it is because I keep the list private. If the list was publicly available, people may be offended that they're not on it, or they may be offended if they are on it but someone else is promoted to be a mod. I'm all for democracy, but you have to trust me when I say it's better that the mod-choosing process remains completely private. Can I get a link to this list or something? I've never seen it.

You beat me. But I have one more reason. And that's so people don't start bragging about that they're on the list. It will lower the chances of them being a mod. And I might be one of those people that will do that.... Which is why I'm not on the list (I know cause INSTINCT!!!)The reason no one has seen it is because I keep the list private. NO. You still don't get it. Feld0 doesn't take suggestions for the mods. He makes the list by himself.Well, i see what you guys mean, but can we just say "I think that (insert member name) would be a good mod," and then ask Feld0 if he thinks so and maybe he'll take our choice into account.
Games that refuse to use Gameplay effectively to do anything are like films that refuse to use cinematography in film to do anything.

To answer your question, no. That's just not how it works here. The chances are that if we did allow that, some members would just nominate the people who they're friends with, rather than those who would actually make good moderators. It could also lead to problems between members. If you suggested one member, but someone else was chosen to be a mod, the member you chose could get upset. Alternatively, if you suggested a member, other members might be upset that they weren't picked.

The only person around here who can say "I think X will make for a good mod" is AMAC, as he is my #1 assistant around here.Well, i see what you guys mean, but can we just say "I think that (insert member name) would be a good mod," and then ask Feld0 if he thinks so and maybe he'll take our choice into account.
Chances are, if a member has what it takes to be a mod, we'll be aware of him/her long before you tell us.
