Am I the only person who is happy with the Nintendo Wii U Pad?  It seems everywhere I turn people are saying things like ... its a gimmick, the Pro Pad should replace it as a pack in controller for the system, Nintendo doesn't even know what to do with it, it not being used in innovative ways .... and the list goes on and on.

Here are the reasons that I like the Pad and am very happy with it.

For one thing,  It is the first second screen device which does what it is supposed to do and does it seamlessly ... and yes I have tried Remote Play with the PS3 & Vita and its horrible.  There is really no lag between what you see on your TV and what is on the Pad.  Game play does not suffer on the Pad, with the PS3 / Vita remote play, lag in gameplay was very pronounced.

The screen on the pad has great dimensions ... it is larger and more "square" than the Vita screen ... it is taller than the Vita screen ... this makes viewing games on it better ... in game text is more readable.

It has both conventional buttons and a touch screen ... tablets do not.

It really feels good ... to me it is the best feeling controller I have used and its Z buttons are perfectly placed and feel great ... its d pad is tight and right ... I like the positioning of the analog sticks as well.

It has a headphone jack and I love that.

it comes with every system ... that means all developers have the option to develop for it no matter what game they are creating .... not the case with Xbox or PS ... in both cases you need to buy a separate device.

I like its uses so far ... the fact that you can flawlessly use it to play off TV games is a major use of the Pad, one that you get so used to so quickly, you almost forget just how really awesome that feature really is.

I like how it is used for maps and inventory screens ... again something so convenient and useful that you may forget how great it is to use the pad for this purpose.

I personally like how it is being used and am not looking forward to the more wacky uses of the pad that may come in the future ... like placing it on the floor and hitting a golf ball that appears on its screen ....

I think the big problem with the pad is that people have become so used to it and its uses so quickly, that its use is so natural, they have forgotten just how great those uses really are.

I'm very pleased and it's probably one of my favourite controllers that nintendo has made.

Off screen play is amazing and pikmin 3 has shown me how useful a map on the gamepad can be. Having it in the cradle whilst playing with the wiimote is fantastic

I love it, my only problems with it is price, battery life, unable to buy an extra one for a spare, and it's kind of heavy compared to your standard controller.

But because of how powerful it is, I can see why another gamepad is so expensive and the battery is horrible. I'm highly considering getting the Nyko gamepad battery life extender.

Also, watching TV and playing games on the gamepad is such a huge win.

I would have to agree, I think that the game pad is a unique controller that has huge potential.  I think that the best feature of the game pad is definitely being able to play some games on the game pad and then being able to watch tv.  I am the kind of person that likes to multi task.... ie.... play video games while watching tv.  WIth the game pad this now becomes easy.

As for the weight of it, I personally feel that its not that heavy considering the technology of the game pad.

I would have to say the battery life is crappy, but with the battery extender makes it all better.  I think in the future there will be more companies making new batteries for the game pad.

I am really looking forward to seeing what cool features we will see with new games for the game pad.

i like the game-pad & it is now one of my fave controllers, it's not too big at all, the only things i don't like is, the lack of analog triggers, poor battery life & a slider or button to dim the screen or even a press on the screen to dim it & then brighten it because in some games it the screen gets in the peripheral vision, i find it worst on NFSMW-U so now i have the brightness dimmed right down on the settings, but then on another game the screen is too dark

The only people saying that the same people who say Nintendo's dying and "They should turn into a software company" and stuff like that.

I quite like the GamePad, but I think it could be much more ergonomic as I do find it much more uncomfortable after an hour or so than Xbox 360 controllers.  The shape around the triggers is just bad ergonomically, plus I'm a bit upset the triggers aren't analog.

As for PS3 remote play, Sony knows about the lag and its why it didn't get good support.  The PS4 will fix all that by using dedicated hardware, like the Wii U does.

The Wii U still wins there of course in that its a bigger screen, a reasonably comfortable pad (far more than PS Vita), uses 5Ghz WiFi (so is less likely to have lag induces from WiFi interference) and EVERY USER HAS ONE.

Still, I am looking forward to remote play on PS4 but I do not expect developers to use it much except for playing games with the TV off, as Sony mandate almost all games should support that.

For the record, Microsoft need to do something major with Smartglass as its a real PITA to use.  When I have used it on Forza Horizon it can take AGES for my Windows 8 laptop to actually connect and load up the game data.

Mainly, the GamePad benefits are that its there all the time and it "just works".  None of the other solutions are as simple as they require users to decide to use that feature, and generally people won't bother.

In the cradle? At some point in Pikmin 3, I used the GamePad equivalently or even more than the Wii-Remote, the map feature was just too important for me. :)

simple answer. I dont like looking up and down between two screens. vita or the pad. gimmick as far as I'm concerned. 3rd party companies are already nervous about Nintendo, and the pad isn't helping.

The Vita doesn't have to screens. I take it you are referring to the DS/3DS.

people seem to think that wii u gamepad == vita/PS4 remote play

... remote play only serves the single function of off tv play, and it will not be for every game, any game that uses  extra hardware such as the PS eye will not work.

I think it's a great idea. Very innovative, and I like how the Wii U shares some DNA with the 3DS (double screens).

I think the problem is people try to compare it to a tablet. What? No, you can't really do that. It's a controller for a gaming console.
