I have been a big fan of Judge Dredd and 2000AD comics for a number of years now and I think it's safe to say he is one of my favourite comic book characters. The first Judge Dredd movie from 1995 starring Sylvester Stallone was awful (and I'm pretty sure everyone who has heard of the film will have heard of it because it was so bad). Finally, a new Judge Dredd film "Dredd" starring Karl Urban was released last year and I thought it was fantastic. It was gritty, violent, and had this low-budget indie film feel to it which I think really added to the tone of the film.

Dredd producers have previously been quoted as saying a Dredd sequel is "unlikely" as the film only grossed $13m at the box office, $15m short of it's production budget. However, through word of mouth there have been strong DVD and Blu Ray sales which have sparked fan interest in a sequel with star Karl Urban even saying he would be interested in a sequel:

“The more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter, write-in to Lionsgate saying ‘we want to see more of this,’ then the more likelihood we will get to see it; we're certainly doing everything we can to make sure it happens.”

Online petitions for movie sequels and continuations of cancelled TV series are not uncommon. But interestingly the publisher of Judge Dredd comics 200AD have started their own official petition for a Dredd sequel which has also been helped by a facebook campaign. The petition has since gained 61,000 signatures in just one week, showing just how many fans this movie has and how many people want a sequel.

I would really like to see the Dark Judges make an appearances if a sequel does happen. The people behind the first movie spoke optimistically about a trilogy before the original film came out and that is really the outcome I want.

Anyone else want to see a sequel? If so you can sign the petition here http://2000adonline....2&id=62906ebdcc and join the facebook page here https://www.facebook...dSequel?fref=ts.

Post your thoughts on the film here too. It would be cool to get a discussion going about possible characters or storylines for any possible sequels.

Im not sure if it really should get a sequel i mean the first one was really cool so a sequel may shed bad light on it

Yeah I can see where you're coming from. Karl Urban has even said that if there is no sequel and this movie just stays a cult classic then that's ok. I agree to some extent.

But the opportunity to explore some more of the mystery of Judge Dredd himself and also to get a deeper look and understanding of the "judge, jury and executioner" political system as well as explore some of the social commentary from the comics is too exciting to pass up. I want to see the whole of Metro-City One, not just an apartment block.

And of course we would get to see lots more bad guys being blown to pieces  :P (it is an action film, after all).
