Legendary Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto has confessed that Eiji Aonuma doesn’t need him around anymore. Miyamoto says that Aonuma is such a proficient developer now that he doesn’t really need any guidance from him these days. Miyamoto went on to say that it’s the same with other high-profile Nintendo developers. He feels he has trained them up to the best of their abilities and therefore they should be able to spread their wings.

“As you saw at our presentation at E3, Mr Aonuma chased me off stage… he doesn’t need me any more! The final responsibility for the title still comes down to me and I’m still involved in the games, but I’m definitely able to leave the series up to him in a way.”

“I don’t have to look at every minute detail of every game any more. I know there’s going to be the level of quality that we expect under his supervision.”

“Similarly we have Koizumi-san, who’s the producer or the Mario series and it’s the same type of situation. And certainly Konno-san with Mario Kart, too. And Mr Eguchi, producer of the Animal Crossing series. These are the main producers that we’ve trained who are talented enough and we can allow them to oversee the project and manage all the details and still maintain the Nintendo level of quality.”

Well Skyward Sword was the best Zelda since Ocarina of Time IMO and for a change wasn't another clone of OoT. I also have a feeling he is going to change the series for the better with Zelda U so I could see why Miyamoto believes Aonuma doesn't need any more guidance.

It's time for Nintendo to prepare for Miyamoto's inevitable retirement and the only way to do this is to phase out his influence on Nintendo's biggest titles.

I wonder if we'll see any significant changes when he does end up retiring.

I would agree with you but the opening of that game is a bit too long for me and the motion controls weren't always as responsive as I would of liked them to be. Still want them to continue with the motion controls in the series though, I'm hopeful they can make them better.

Fair enough, I know quite a few people didn't enjoy the motion controls. I think the story in Skyward Sword is probably the best of any Zelda game but the game itself just doesn't have the same feeling you get when you play OoT for the first time (although I'm not sure if that could ever be matched)

I would certainly like to have a motion control option for Zelda U.

I still don't see why people don't like the motion controls in skyward sword. I have never had a problem with them. Skyward Sword's story was definitely the best of any Zelda I've played and I've played all of the 3D ones and the DS ones. and Link to the past.

Anouma is going to be great as will everyone else on their own. If anything, Nintendo will begin to show even more diversity in their games with these talented people. If only we had some of these talented devs training people for Metroid, F-Zero, and Star Fox. Give some of those old franchises some time to shine with these new Nintendo developers and we're golden. Give us some new IP's from these guys also and we're platinum!

Also, it's my birthday so Nintendo should take me seriously.

I liked that he changed up the formula with SS but it's not the Best Zelda but rather the least good out of the 3d Zelda's IMO but I still liked it mostly because of the changing of the Zelda formula.
