We have a Wii- U purchased in the US and suddenly we need to move to Asia.

Now I understand the Wii-U is region locked code locked, but we do have a multisystem TV, a Transformer to convert the electricity to 220v, US credit cards, a US home address.

I have NO intention of buying the games in Asia, they are much cheaper in the US, well at least the used old regular Wii games and we will always have a base in the US  even though we will keep moving.

Nintendo refuses to answer my question.

So why cant I use it in Asia. Does it mean whenever we move we must buy a new Wii - doesnt make sense. Is there any way around it ? Nintendo said that it is "possible but they are not sure" that when downloading software updates, the system auto selects the local country region codes.

Has anybody tried using the Wii-U overseas ?

You can use it fine with what you have.

It's gonna work fine as long as you get the US versions of all the games. Updates shouldn't do anything (unless Nintendo decides to screw people like you over, that is).

Nintendo's systems are far too simple and/or stupid/not good to use geo ip to do updates, eshop, system menu, anything of any kind anywhere and anything.

It should be fine. HDMI is region-agnostic, so it won't care that your TV is not Amercan. And I don't think there's anything in the Wii U that looks up your location based on your IP address (and there's no other way of identifying the location, short of a GPS chip which would be pointless)

That being said, I'd consider getting an official local power adaptor for the Wii U. That way you can skip converting it to 110v. make sure it's certified though.

Not that having geographically specific updates is a good thing.
