I see teenagers in that video not 8/9 year olds like in most on Nintendos videos now.

lucario23 was correct when it comes to taking Mario to a too child friendly enviroment and that was mentioned in the video. They are making Mario too child friendly, kids already want to play it because it's Mario so the idea of putting him in a kitty cat suit doesn't appeal to me at all. Mario 64 however balanced it all perectly.. You could fly though rainbows or you could toss bowers over some bombs while heavy metalish music plays.

That has nothing to do with mario today, and everything to do with you back in 1996.

Bowsers presentation in mario galaxy is LEAGUES beyond mario 64's bowser in every asset you mentioned.

My son was absolutely TERRIFIED of tentaclops or whatever the name of that squid haired boss is in skyward sword.

These people are suffering arrested development. Nothing has changed the way they are trying to make it seem.

ITS ALWAYS been targeted at children. And its ALWAYS, been of a high enough game quality to also be enjoyed by adults, who are not repressed manchildren. UNLIKE other productions, who pander to children by treating them like morons, and make games that thus PLAY moronically, look at KLANK.

The only difference between then and now is you have 17 years of gaming experience. THAT is what has changed. Well, that and the long as crap tutorials. But guess what? Those tutorials arent for the children...  Sad but true.

I think about this way: Nintendo is just completely honest about what games are. And what are games? Games are TOYS and toys must be primarily aimed at the young. This call for "dark" or "gritty" stuff reminds me of a thirteen-year-old thinking he can't watch cartoons anymore. There's a reason that C.S. Lewis quote is such a slap in the face to such idiots.

You missed the point entirely. This is about getting people who don't/have no interest in a Wii U to buy one. We need that 13 year old kid to buy consols to keep relevent this generation. Kids like Cod and dark stuff now, not colorful happy mario. ( Don't confuse Mario 64 with that though )

Also are you even talking about KIDS or Teenagers? two different demographs.

*stand and slow clap*

I'm 27.  Zelda: OoT and Mario 64 are responsible for me being a gamer and I don't need bullet-boob porn-n-gore to make me feel like an adult

Those kids WERE 8-9. There is no teenager on earth without severe developmental problems that are that prepubescent, and they certainly wouldnt be doing commercials for teen products.

And teenagers ARE children. Just typocally more obnoxious due to the fact they've forgotten they dont know jack squat. Usually a stage that is grown out of by the mid 20's. *glances at moronic manchild video*. Usually.

Since you clearly cant tell the difference, HERE is an 80's tv commercial advertising nintendo products with a teenager.

Oh look, its metroid, and not mario what a Surprise.

And yeah, cat suits? Man new nintendo is so lame. Raccon suits, and frog suits are so hard core. Cat suits, man nintendo has changed.

Heavy metalish music in mario 64? LMFAO ok kid. Grow up. Seriously. Stop idolizing man children before its too late.

If you took the wii u back in time to 1996 And showed super mario 3d land to teenagers playing mario 64 they would crap themselves, and then, if you tried explaining your bs to them about how the cat suit made the game only enjoyable by kids they would laugh in your face and trade the n64 with you in a heartbeat, and then spend the rest of the day laughing at that that guy with the most outrageous insecurity complex.

After taking a long hard look around, I'd say Nintendo needs to get that child demographic while it can by advertising.  There are so many parents with little kids that would buy a wii u if they or their children knew what it was. Any sales would be better than the sluggish sales they have been having.

A family friend usually asks my advice regarding what games and consoles to get their children (10 and 7).  Last year I said not to bother with the wii u yet because of its relatively high price at the time combined with the fact that the only game at launch her children would possibly enjoy was New Super Mario Bros U.  Now they have added Super Luigi , 3D World, lego marvel, a large amount of skylanders, and Sonic Lost world.  Also coming soon will be mario kart and Donkey Kong.  I might even recommend her oldest son to start into the Zelda series with Windwaker HD.

The fact is thatthey have plenty of family and kid friendly games, so why aren't they selling a ton to these demographics?  The lack of advertising.  It looks like they are finally remedying that problem, but we will see.

And those kids are idiots who will eventually grow out of that shallow bull. It happens, we ALL have that awkward, insecure phase and it is the most IRRITATING phase in any person's life. The sooner game makers stop pandering to that demographic, the better.

Once again completly missed every point on marketing. I just.. i don't even. . I DON'T EVEN.

Who fking cares how annoying they are. Their money is as good as anyone elses. The Wii U will sink without them because the casual maket the Wii had has moved on,

No, you have NO CLUE what you are talking about, but think you know something everybody else doesnt, when in fact, EVERYONE knows what you are trying to say, its actually common knowledge and we disagree with it. My original post adresses EVERYTHING you have been bringing up.

NO. Kids today are NOT into 'dark gritty bs now'.

ITS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT. 'Dark and gritty' are seen as adult seals of approval desperately sought after by adolescent children. Its no different now, than it was back then. Thats why sega spent billions on psychological study of american children, which resulted in a series of ad campaigns designed to label nintendo as kiddy, sega as adult, and make kids embarrassed of nintendo. Its one of the most succsessful campaigns in history, and the ramnifications are still in effect today, as some of those kids affected by that campaign are now gamz jirnoliz still spouting the same garbage in segas ads.

The problem you dont know about, is thats just a short term solution, with long term ramnifications. Most kids will, like Mr Lewis says, grow out of that stage and realize how childish that really is. And now you have your entire image that youve built up, that only works for a specific age, for a specific time.

Howd that work out sega?

Tell me, is this still cool?

Nintendo works for the long term goal, not the short term flash. Sometimes they miss trends, but they also avoid pitfalls, Nintendo remains classic. Its why theyve been around so long, and why theyll be around long after the effects of this garbage generation collapse.

I agree with you on this- Nintendo is simply classic.  They have a magic that simply hasn't been duplicated and likely never will.  This is the whole reason why I got a Wii U- and why when I bought it, the first game I got was NSMBU.....I'm not even a huge fan of Mario, but I can't imagine getting a system and not being able to play it, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart and hopefully soon Star Fox.
