I hate the wii u.  Help me love it please.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong.  I love my original wii.  Is there a way to bypass the whole different user/profile/mii thingy and just have it start up like the original wii?  I don't want to select a user each time the thing turns on.  I want it to look like the wii when it turns on, with the title screen thing with options like the normal wii.  I want to see the little netflix square when I turn the wii u on like the other wii.  Can I control Netflix through the remotes and not the stupid gamepad?  Seriously, I hate that piece of crap gamepad.  It's heavy and awkward.  My 3 year old could easily use the wii and turn on netflix and watch a cartoon all by himself while I did dishes or cooked dinner.  With the wii u I can barely turn on netflix and watch something and I'm 36!   I thought new meant better, not more complicated!  And what is it with having to create a nintendo network id just to be able to watch netflix?  I don't want to have to do this for my 10 year old and 3 year old as well if I'm forced to set up a profile thing for them  Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I... don't really know if you can be hleped

The things that are bothering you are kind of no big deal for others, if not advantages.

For example logging into a profile is something windows has been doing for YEARS, so I don't think it really bothers anyone.

And I don't know if your gamepad is defiectve, because mine is light and fits my hands almost perfectly, and I've heard the same from the vast majority of owners.

It seems like deep down you want to hate the wii u and are kind of blowing things out of proportion. :/

or maybe you're scared of change?

I really don't know...

You can use just one profile if you want (Though all show suggestions will all be mixed up and jumbled from all users), I dont think touching a face in the midle of a screen is that monumental of a deal...

And yes, you can use wii remotes instead of the gamepad. To get to the channel screen thats normally on the gamepad just click on the icon in the lower right corner.

oh man, not the opening screen. Just learn to deal with it, it's not bad, you just expect too much.

It is a big deal for the kids.  We want easy.  Like the basic wii.  But the kids want to play the wii u games.

I have to click the icon in the lower right  every time I start the wii u up??  I can't just get that screen to stay instead of the stupid one with all the people?

I have young kids.  It is a big deal.  It's annoying and seems like two steps back.  The gamepad is heavy and large and awkward. It's far heavier than my tablet.   I hate having to hold it.  And I cannot get netflix to work most of them time.  Keep getting an error code:102-2931.  I have to sign in with my nintendo network password EVERY TIME I turn the wii u on just to watch netflix?!?!?!?  I just want netflix to work without the hassle.  That's all we have for tv, we don't have cable.

It's obviously made for the new tv's as well.  Picture is either a tiny square in the middle of my tv or a horrible widescreen rectangle in the middle of my tv.  I fail to see how this wii u is any better than the wii.  At least the picture from the wii shows on my whole tv screen.  We have old style tv.  I hate widescreen tv's.

For example logging into a profile is something windows has been doing for YEARS, so I don't think it really bothers anyone.

I really don't know...

I'm not scared of change.  I just want the thing to work without hassle!    I want to love it.  I really do.  I was very excited to get it as a gift from my mom.  But it's just horrible.  As for logging into a profile with windows - not something I do.  I hated that.  When my computer turns on it goes straight to my desktop and everyone uses the same "profile".  Not a dozen different ones.  That's what I want for the wii u.

Is there no way to make it act like the wii?

If I'm forced to use profiles, do I really need to create a seperate nintendo network account for each person?  Just so my 10 year old can use netflix under his "profile"????  That seems so unnecessary!  I have to set a child up with an account and an email address and password?????

Why do I have to put a password in every time I try to get on netflix?????  It's not netflix making me.  It's the stupid nintendo network.

And I DO want profiles for NETFLIX!!!  That's the only thing I want profiles for.  Just NOT for the wii u.  Only netflix doesn't offer profiles on the wii u but does on the wii?????

On the rare occassions that the wii u actually "allows" me to access netflix, it's just the one main profile.  The kids are cluttering up my sci-fi shows and movies with a bunch of cartoons!

I thought the wii was supposed to be kid and family friendly?  The wii u is not.

Is there no way to fix the issues I'm having?

Hold B on the gamepad at the start up Wii U screen and go into the Wii Mode, now get over it.

That's great and all, but there's no netflix on there.  Is the machine actually being user friendly and functional too much to ask for?

1. You can set it so you don't need to type your password to login. 2. You can press the button shown on the screen switcher to switch screens. Using this, the entire thing is easily navigable with a wiimote or Pro controller If you take time to look at the entire options apps and user management, you will discover many things that help mitigate some of your issues.

You have to download it from the Wii Shop, I have no idea what you are talking about how it's not user friendly, I set up my wii u in 10 minutes.

All your problems feel like HUGE first world problems, extremely small first world problems. You can "Auto sign in" with your account, the reason accounts are there is so no one else messes yours up. Come on, it's just a tap of the screen. Also, I don't even see your problem with netflix. On the wii you had to point at the rectangle*, press A, and press start, now it's just a single tap of the icon. If you're having trouble with netflix, that's netflix's problem, not nintendo at all. Also, if your getting an error code, that's your INTERNET having the problem, move your wii U closer to the TV if you need to, I don't know about you, but to me the wii U netflix is by far the best netflix.

So basically, you just need to live with it. The wii was alot slower and harder to use than the Wii U, you'll get used to the Wii U over time. In the meantime, just take time to enjoy what it has.

also, the gamepad is supposed to be heavy, it's still a controller, not a full tablet.

I thought the wii was supposed to be kid and family friendly?  The wii u is not.

Is there no way to fix the issues I'm having?

So like I said, none of these things are steps backward at all. the ability to have multiple personalized accounts is in no way a step back from one account for all. Also like people have said quite a few times, you literally just have to move your hand a couple inches and tap the screen. Before you had the remote and had to click a on the screen. It's the same number of steps, so are you saying that it would be easier for you to use the wii remote to select your profile? Cause I think if you put that in practice, then you would quickly eat those words.

Also you don't have to have an account for every member in your family. I don't believe I remember Nintendo announcing that you would have to sign a contract saying you will do so when you buy a Wii U. If it's all THAT much trouble to tap an icon, then just use one account for everyone.

The gamepad can't really be called heavy. It's not like you're going to have your arms get tired from holding it or be able to use it as a dumbbell. Seriously, a one year-old could carry it. If your children, or worse you are having problems with the weight then maybe you should simply sell the Wii U and use it to buys some food, since you would obviously have to be malnourished.

Of COURSE  the Wii U is made for "new" TV's. If you could even call them that. If you don;t have an HDTV, seriously, just go out and get one, I'm pretty certain you can find one for cheaper even than a Wii U. That's like saying the Wii is a step back because it doesn't work with old black and white TVs/ That's just completely ridiculous. Even my family as of this year has all HD TVs... except for my grandpa who had on, but refused the upgrade and gave it to us.

So yeah, you're living in my grandpa's generation.

Let's not even go into the ridiculous amount of flack and money lost this would mean for nintendo.

And like people said, the netflix thing has to do with the fact either a) your router doesn't get along with your Wii u, which isn't Nintendo's fault really B) Netflix  and how it handles the app.

Since you have asked for help, I suppose I'll actually give you an overall recommendation now learn about technology. It's not nano science. I'm not saying learn how to code well enough to bring down the internet in 100 key strokes, but this is some seriously basic crap you're complaining about, that (as I said) only my grandpa's generation can't wrap their heads around.

I really prefer using the remote.  I can do it one handed and it's fast.  Try holding a squirming, screaming baby while also trying to hold onto a heavy akward gamepad with two hands just so you can control the wii u and netflix.  NOT easy.  Also, not easy for a 3 year old to use.

And maybe I have a defective unit because my wii u is HORRIBLY slow.  Far slower than the wii.  It takes forever to load anything.  I never had to wait this long on the wii.  I have good internet, my mom had amazingly fast internet, and it sucked on hers too.

I'm not going to go buy an hdtv.  I hate them.  The picture is crap on them, even with an hdmi cable and I hate the widescreen.  I've avoided them so far.  Plus, I don't have the money for the ridiculous price they are.  I didn't buy the wii u, it was a gift.

My wii u is right next to my tv, not far away.  And I do know technology.  Probably more than you think I know.  Knowing about it doesn't necessarily mean liking it.  I know quite a bit about computers and always had the latest gaming machine.  My mom has always bought the latest and greatest stuff.  Still doesn't mean I like it or think it's amazing.  I actually prefer old school.  Hate hdtv.  Love the big bulky heavy square tv's.  Actually still use cassette tapes (gasp!).  And VHS!  Even though the quality sucks, I still prefer them.

Seriously, I just asked for help on any tips for getting it how I want it.  A simple, "No, there is no way of getting a title screen like the wii had ", would have been great.  Or any tips on how to make it more user friendly would have been helpful.  Because I really don't think it is.  My husband thinks it's crap too.  But all I get is a bunch of, "deal with it"  and "learn technology" and "blowing things out of proportion".  Really?  Let me guess, most of you teenagers or early 20's?  I'd probably love the wii u too if I was that young and the only one using it.  But I have a young family using it.  And Nintendo is supposed to be family friendly.  That's the only reason we have a wii and not another gaming machine.

Even though I'm very knowledgeable tech wise, I'm still proud to be living in your grandpa's generation.  People had manners back they and were very polite and had morals.  Just because it's "basic crap" doesn't mean it's better or I like it.  It's crap.

1. For netflix I just put the gamepad on my lap then it's one handed
2. The loading screens used to be longer. they're still ridiculous but not as bad. Except for Lego City. That game has really bad loading.
3. what's the difference between the Wii and the Wii U title screen? you an always boot into Wii mode to access your Wii Shop and Wii disk games
4. HDTVs are basically all tvs these days. The Xbox One and PS4 actually dropped support for anything without HDMI, and th next Nintendo console may follow suit. They're the same price as older tvs were when they came out. Heck, I picked up an old 51" crt-based HDTV for $80 and it's still my primary tv. a decent 32" LCD can be had for under $170.
5. The Wii is the ONLY console that had one-handed games (excluding the DS). And not very many if I recall correctly; many needed a nunchuck or to use the wiimote sideways like a NES controller.
6. If you always had the latest computer, then you probably always had the latest monitor. You my have noticed that monitors these days aren't exactly anywhere near 480i (the resolution of non-HDTVs)
7. Out of mild curiosity, why do you prefer VHS over DVD?

I'm afraid you really sound like you have severe difficulty embracing new technology. If you expect something new to operate identcally to something old, you're bound to be disappointed.

Sometimes it just takes a moment to sit down and figure out how something works and if your first impression is correct. And if you don't have the time, you either need to make time or reevaluate how you prioritize your time.

I think your WiiU and apps are might be slow because you haven't been able to update yet? Almost all of nintendo's servers were down over Christmas because of high demand (by new WiiU users). Have you updated yet? For the other things there kinda isn't an solution. I'm afraid most things takes some getting used to.
