Is it possible to turn off the gamepad, or at least have the gamepad screen go black while you are watching netflix or amazon on the TV to save battery life?

If not, do you think this could be something Nintendo might add in the future?  Do others want this feature?

Hm I'm not sure. You can try home button > whatever the button in the bottom left is > display off > yes. But due to having to push the home button, it may interupt netflix.

Yes. Hit home, go to controller settings, turn off display.

No you can't. People keep asking this. If you push any button after turning off the display ( or more importantly, since it has a gyroscope, if you move the gamepad ) , the gamepad re-activates, also battery loss still occurs since everything else is on but the display of the gamepad.

Gyroscope only takes it out of its energy saving mode (when the screen goes dark, but not off).

Also, if you use a wiimote to go out of the home menu after turning the gamepad off it should stay off.

It does, and it can be any supported controller, and its not just netflix, you can do it with a lot of games too.
