"I do have to bring up is how the Wii U GamePad is used. If you are playing on the television, the touchscreen will have nothing displayed on it and it stays blank the entire time. There are no options to quickly select levels or see simple information displayed. If you are going for off-TV play, it is the same deal as nothing will be displayed on the television. It is not the worst thing ever, but it made me want to use the GamePad less and that can't be what Nintendo and Retro Studios wanted."

Just blank? They couldn't even mirror it? Weak.

That's a shame, I was hoping for some integration, at least a progress bar or something.

This is quite intresting, a first party title with no gamepad integration in the actual game, i wonder if this is a sign of a future wii-u sku without a gamepad, possible a sku with just a wii-u and controller.

Intresting to say the least.

It's a battery saving feature, you know, because everyone is always complaining about the battery life?

I'm pretty sure the gamepad is just used for off-screen play anyway, so having it turned off won't make you miss out on much.

Might just get a Pro Controller so I can make room where my current Wii U Gamepad is charging.

The lack of advantage even Nintendo is taking in the gamepad makes me a sad ledo.

In other words, I love you

Sucks but it's not a deal breaker. I'm still super excited for this game.

TBH I wouldn't mind if Nintendo made the gamepad optional. Current games that can support it would need to be updated (and packaging would have to be altered to note when gamepad is needed.)

Maybe they can have a gamepad-free version retail for $25 (you would still need a remote though)

That dual output must add stress to the gpu so as mentioned above is it turned off for that reason?
Not the the games looks anything special.

This Gamepad is starting to look like a bigger dud than the Atari Jaguar controller.

I admit the Gamepad sucks too much for the Wii U.

Not every game is taking advantage of Off-TV Play, or using the Gamepad as an optional controller. While the Wii forced the use of a Wii Remote, not forcing both of those advantages on the Wii U system has more than likely made gamers look away. I like the Off-TV Play function, but I don't like being forced to use the Gamepad for certain games.

The Gamepad wasn't a well thought experience though. I don't think Nintendo invested that much into the R&D of it all.

Back to topic: A 2D DK sidescroller doesn't feel like a game that needs 2 screens. Not upset at all.

The design of the Gamepad is fantastic, it's not bulky, it's not heavy and it's comfortable but the battery life and the fact that virtually no developer has really utilised the gamepad says it all.

That said I'm really intrigued as to how Bayonetta 2 will use the gamepad, given Platinum Games's excellent use of the Gamepad for the W101, I'm expecting more of the same for Bayonetta 2.

Second party*

This is quite bad, they could have a least done something simple with it like show how many bananas, Puzzle peices you have

There's no such thing as second party. This is first party, technically.

Edit: What I mean is, while second party does mean what Retro is, it's not a correct term (strictly speaking).

Besides a few Nintendo land games, barely any game needs the game pad. It's pretty much a gimmick at this point.

Second party is games owned by Nintendo but aren't created by them, like Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Metroid etc.

It's a slang word, though. Second party actually doesn't officially mean anything.
