Super Mario 3D World doesn't use the gamepad for anything either, right? I prefer it showing nothing than just doubling the TV screen.

I'd prefer it if Nintendo didn't force the tablet controller onto customers when they never really had any great ideas for it.

There is butt-ton of things the gamepad does in 3d world.

Suits me down to the ground.

I hate gamepad play which diverts my eyes away from the TV.

They all suck though. I found that level where you have to tap the platforms too distracting and irritating. And then the finding "secrets" by moving the touch screen cursor isn't very exciting either.

I agree Nintendo needs to find some exciting and interesting ways of using the gamepad (ZombiU seems to be the only game which had some great original ideas for the gamepad imo) but when it comes to DK or any other 2D sidescroller whats the point? It would either mirror the screen like NSMBU or be used as a map or progress bar or something. No big deal.

Sucks but it's not a deal breaker. I'm still super excited for this game.

Agreed. I really do love me some off-tv play, but even inventory screen would have been good, like showing your bananas, K O N G and pieces. Perhaps they'll patch it for use?

I honestly really don't care about the Gamepad functionality. Give me a great game and I'm good to go.

I'm really not too saddened, seeing as there isn't too much stuff that the gamepad could really do for this game... But it does show that not even Nintendo (or Retro, I guess) can come up with good ways to use it. I don't think that means the gamepad is useless, though... I could think of many great ways to use it in games, and it's really what makes the Wii U unique*. I think that Nintendo has recognized their failures, and will try to do better in the future. In the defense of DKC:TF not having gamepad functionality, it may be possible that Retro began development before they knew what exactly the Wii U... Well, was... Probably not, though. They had plenty of time to rework the game to include the gamepad, so it's probably just them being silly.

*New advertising campaign, Ninty! "Wii U. Unique." Or something along those lines...

Yea I'm kinda the same way. It makes me hopeful that in the future Nintendo will utilize its controller to the full. But for now, we all know DKCU is going to be an excellent title, so screw it

In other words, I love you

I did hear that retro is adding some last minute code for the gamepad. While playing DKTF on our TV, the gamepad will display Nintendo's stock tanking live. Updates are every 3 seconds so it should be a nice feature
